pilgrimage (Hajj) to the house of God in Makkah, the house built by God's prophets Abraham and his son Ishmael. Pilgrimage brings us face to face with people of all races and colors, and challenges us to break the walls that separate us from one another and to embrace the true brotherhood of humanity as the sacred bond that unites all of us under the lordship of the one and only God.

it is only obligation to those who can afford it , but it is one of the basic faiths of musims.

Yes Muslims are required to attend Hajj at least once in their lifetime for every male and female adult Muslim. You have to be physically and financially capable of performing Hajj. For women they need to be accompanied by their husband or mahram. In the even of a divorce the Muslim woman needs permision from her ex husand. If a woman chooses not to attend with her husband or mahram than she should attend in a group of 3 or more women. They need a special hajj visa which Saudi issues every year. The exception is if you are poor or travelling or sick.

If Muslims can afford it, they should do it atleast once in their lifetime. The more times the better, but it's just once. Debts should be paid up and a will should be drawn up prior to leaving for Hajj.

Only who can afford to do Hajj. Otherwise not a compulsion.
