Labradors are disciplined dogs while golden retrievers are excellent play mates.
It was hard for me to choose as well so i got a mix between the two. She's extremely disciplined at home and highly playful both indoors and outdoors.
Golden retrievers tend to shed a lot of hair while labradors hardly do.
Try a mix of the 2 or go for a retriever. In the end both breeds are very affectionate and harmless ones.

I have a Golden puppy (8 months old). This is, by far, the most loving pup ever. He loves greeting other people, loves playing with other dogs and is just a joy to be around. Even when he makes a mistake (like chews on something he shouldn't), I can't get mad - he's just too adorable. This doesn't mean I don't correct him, but all anger is washed away. His cuteness has helped not only him, but his "brother in crime" (another dog that I have).

Goldens are very loyal, but very friendly. They don't take too kindly to being picked on by other dogs (mine has run to me for protection - which I offer - when at a dog park), but do love being played with if they feel in control.

That said, Labs are also wonderful dogs and are very similar to Goldens. While I prefer the Golden, you won't go wrong with a Lab. I do think Labs are a bit more high strung though and not as accepting (from my experience) as a Golden. This could be a good thing as they tend to be a bit more focused on you.

My concern is more for your current dogs accepting a new dog. If you are going to a shelter or adopting from a breeder, I'd bring your dogs to this new dog and ensure that all get along before taking home the Golden or Lab.

Golden Retrievers are the best dogs in the world. They love everyone and would mix really well with your other dog. They are also not quite so obsessed with food as the Lab and therefore don't have the overweight problems to the same extent as Labs. Only downfall is they lose lots of hair, but they are so lovable that it doesn't seem to matter.

I love labs. I have an 18 mos. old yellow lab. She's my baby. I also have a 3 year old yorkie - they are halarious together. Either way Labs or Goldens are like having a two year old - ripping the house apart. I don't know what a Shiba Inu is.

Honestly, I'm sure you'll be happy with either you choose. I'd just start looking for both and see what specific puppy you connect with. They're so close to being identical dogs.. I'm sure you won't be disappointed either way.

I have a lab (7) and he's a GREAT dog. The only downside with labs is their extreme shedding... I think a Golden might be a little better in that dept.

Either one generally prove to be a great pet. Very loyal, playful, and eager to please. Also both are fairly obedient. My only caution for you is that probably 80% of the Golden retrievers I have been around are SUPER hyperactive. Labs can be this way too, but most tend to outgrow this stage after the puppy years. Either one of these 2 breeds would probably be your best bet out of all breeds. And both should be GREAT with small children...also a plus.

You can't go wrong with a Golden Retriever! I would be wary with labs, you could end up with one that is super hyper. Do your research on picking a good lab if you decide on it. English labs are much more well behaved than the American lineages.

A Golden Retriever. They get along really well with any family member including other dogs. They are super friendly and smart! They love their family unconditionally. They love to play but do listen very well when trained. They love to swim and play in water.

well i dont know about goldies because i've never owned one but i really like labs, their great dogs when i got a puppy ...a jack russell terrier... my lab licked her a lot at first, but would never bite her...even to this day my jack russell terrier will bite her in the ear and she still stands it she won't bite her no matter what she just gives her a warning snarl...and then it's the weirdest thing since jack russell terriers are soo much smaller than labs my lab will roll on her back and the jack will jump over her and bite her ears...it's just how they play....both of them are female and it is said it is bad to get two dogs of the same sex and that they'll fight but they're fine..o and their just great, fun dogs to play with
