I have witnessed first hand in hospitals and special schools the number of disabled children born ino families where the parents are related. There quality of life is greatly reduced and these kids are often poorly treated at home.

I live in London, England.

My experince is predominately from East London.

Lee- my descripion of the child as mutated refers to the gen mutation which caused the disability.

It is not a generalisation when the families that ar having disabled kids, have a history of disability. and when you look at the geneology it turns out that the grandmother had married her cousin= smaller gene pool, her child marries his cousin= the gene pool gets smaller still, then his child also marries her cousin....At some point this should have been stopped!

My experience of disabled kids being mistreated comes from placements in the community team, school nurse team and special school...a higher number of disabled kids in all situations were inappropriately dressed despite being prone to dribbling, wore the same undergarments for more than 3 days and were on the child protection register for neglect yet still remain with their parents....its utterly irresponsible.

Most people who marry relative goes for genetic counselling; my friends did that 30 years ago, because his brother had learning difficulties. They have 2 kids with university degrees and no health problems. They were not mistreated either.
I work with people who have learning difficulties; none of them have parents who are related. My son is autistic; his father and I are not related. Some parents do have difficulty coping, others, like myself cope perfectly well.
No one will argue that there is an increased risk of specific disabilities where there is a small gene pool but you are over generalising.
I do have serious doubts about your first hand experience. No professional working in health or education would refer to a child as mutated.

Actually, first cousins, statistically speaking, do not have a high probability of having a child with issues. It'd be interesting for the statisticians to get their hands on the info where you live to find out what's going on that is making the first cousins where you live have so many problems with offspring when that's not the norm.

The chances of a defect in the children of close relatives depends on the presence of genes that are defective, not on the closeness of the relatives. If there are no, or few, genes for some defect, their children will not inherit any defects.

The problem really arises when defective genes are present - in that case, the chances of a defect showing up in the children are increased beyond the chances of that when the individuals mate with unrelated persons who do not have "matching" genes.

FYI: During Egyptian times of the Pharaohs it was believed only royal blood could create a child and the only royal blood was the immediate family so during those days all offspring was inter-bred partially because during those days they didn't have milkmen or mailmen that made house calls. Some births were Mongoloid so they were put to death and the priest said they died at birth.

MY UNCLE AND AUNTY ARE FIRST COUSINS! they have 4 children! oldest perfectly healthy, 2 oldest healthy but in prison totally bad behaved, 3rd oldest has learning difficultys and hearing difficultys and the youngest has no probelms what so ever! so out of 4 only 1 has problems!

they are madly in love i think there realtionship is stronger then most realtionships i have ever seen! they have been together 27 years!

i think if you love one another its your right to have children anyone can have a child and they can be born with problems... we do not blame the parents in that scenario so why do we when there related.. its proven that not all children born by 1st cousins will have gentic problems!

i take it your from mid wales or the highlands or maybe devon.if the evidence is true for your mutated claim then im 100% against, but i think your claim about being poorly treated is a bit misguided, why would they be miss treated?

You would think so, but some people can't help who they fall in love with - they should, however, be responsible though and agree not to have children.
They know the consequences of their relationship - just not adult enough to cope with them. Sadly.
