Intelligent design proponents have used the eye an example of something too complex to develop through evolution, yet the box jellyfish has six eyes that represent several different stages of the evolution of the eye.

Whether they are saying the Earth was created in six days or not, the fact is that they are still saying there was devine intervention somewhere along the way.

A somewhat ridiculous proposition when God dosn't exist.

Creationists don't like to be proven wrong. They will stoop to the lowest levels of maturity in order to keep themselves from admitting that they are wrong.

It is a dodge designed to take any specific mention of God himself out of the equation. The problem with "scientific creationism" was that it specificially referenced God and then attempted to "prove" the account of Genesis with bogus science. The courts have consistently held that this is just a backdoor argument in favor of teaching religion in the science classroom.

The notion of "Intelligent Design" was a response to this in which it was proposed that the very complexity of existence tends to "prove" the existence of an intelligent creator. Intelligent Design theory does not specificially address the identity of that creator as the Judeo-Christian God, but rather only the existence of a creator. One has to give these people credit for their creativity.

One of many glaring flaws in Intelligent Design theory is that it usually hypothecizes that proof of the existence of this creator is found only in the aspects of nature that we do not yet understand. In other words, Intelligent Design tends to banish the creator (God) to the gaps in human knowledge. What they don't seem to understand is that Intelligent Design theory presents a view of their God as one that can be crushed ever smaller as our understanding of the universe expands. Theoretically, this implies that greater understanding can squeeze their concept of God out of existence. This seems a touch self defeating, if you ask me.

As it relates to evolution, another flaw in the religious argument is that it rests on an old logical fallacy in which one assumes that disproving another's thesis proves his own.

Me, I take the pov that science is science and religion is religion, and the mere fact that some specific scientific theory may have gaps or may even be disproved in no way proves religious precepts. In other words, even were evolution to be thoroughly disproved, I fail to understand how that would make the events described in Genesis any less unlikely. However, I have never had the courage to deny the existence of God outright.

I believe in evolution but I believe there was an intelligent design behind it. When you look biologically at life and all of the things that could and should (statistically) go wrong, there is no mathematically logical reason why anyone or thing is walking around as a functioning being. But we are which to me indicates that there is some divine will behind it.

ID was repackaging of creationism to give it another run through the courts. If they could get ID into the classroom they could start modifying the doctrine (it's doctrine, not science) to bring religion in piecewise.

The doctrine of irreducible complexity has yet to apply to a biological system.

The veil must be lifted in order for you to come to the knowledge that God DOES exist and that His design is incredible, and that nothing is impossible with Him. God can do anything.... He is pretty awesome!
