In Genesis, we learn of the creation of Adam and Eve. We then find that they had two sons...Cain and Abel. Cain kills Abel and is sent away by God. His brother Seth is born. Cain finds a city and people...takes a wife and raises a family.

There are two main thoughts on where these other people came from. Many would say that they were other brothers and sisters that the Bible did not mention. The order of the narrative is somewhat iffy regarding that, though, as once Cain killed Abel, God came to him and sent him away, and Cain headed east to Nod where he found a wife and started a family. Then, Eve was sad so her and Adam got busy and she gave birth to Seth. If she had other children, she would most likely not have replied that God has given her another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him. The other thought is that Adam and Eve were the first humans that God created, but that God created other humans later on, in other areas, which would include the people in Nod,

where Cain found a wife. If it is true that God created other humans, then Adam's sin would not have affected them directly. Otherwise God would have made a less than perfect creation and it would not be the equal creation to Adam (and thus a race of inferior beings).

If you believe that God created people other than Adam and Eve, speculate on how this new creation of man fell from God's grace (as apparantly the world got pretty wicked to bring about the flood). If you believe the other people were related to Adam and Eve, speculate on why the order of events does not fit very well. If you believe in some other explanation for the early population of the world, share your thoughts on that. If you just want to mock, I ask you kindly to please mock somewhere else.

Good answers so far, I hope people keep them coming. Oh also, I do realize Adam and Eve had more than three...these three were just the focus of my question.

My belief is different.

Cain and Abel each had twin sisters.
Cain killed Abel, and ran away with one of the sisters.

Adam and Eve had more children.

That's how it happened.

You have to remember, Adam lived for 930 years! He was 130 years old when he had Seth. That's a lot of time to get busy and start a nation. I believe that we all came from Adam and Eve. I questioned, Where did Cain's wife come from?, and when you realize the time line, that's a long time and no one says how old Cain was or how old his wife was and such. Time line is faint, but the big picture is there. Adam and Eve probably had more than three. Those are just the ones that were mentioned, for one reason or another.

Adam and Eve had more children than the few who are mentioned by name, and one of their daughters became Cain's wife.

I'm borrowing this explanation from the link below: "In Genesis 5:4 a statement sums up the life of Adam and Eve—‘And the days of Adam after he had fathered Seth were eight hundred years. And he fathered sons and daughters.’ This does not say when they were born. Many could have been born in the 130 years (Genesis 5:3) before Seth was born."

That page goes on to say that the Jewish historian Josephus wrote, quoting tradition, that Adam fathered 33 sons and 23 daughters.

Adam lived for 930 years. It doesn't seem unreasonable that some of his children moved away during that time, especially as they were fruitful and multiplied (and needed more land).

Cain's wife had to have been Adam and Eve's descendant [it says in Corinthians that Adam and Eve were the only people of their time]. Furthermore, Cain's wife isn't neccessarily from Nod, Cain just went there before he got married. And anyway, incest wasn't considered wrong at the time [nowadays, incest will most likely result in the baby being deformed] because Adam and Eve were created perfect... or so the Bible says...

P.S. I don't really believe in creation; I'm an Atheist.

Cain didn't find a city but his son Enoch built it. Cain could have been gone for many years before his brothers and sisters were born. I don't think God made any more people because all of our sin came from Adam.

Here's a thought. I wonder if you have heard this "conspiracy." It is possible that Adam and Eve were not the first. When God made them, he told them to "replenish" the earth. Re- meaning to redo. It needed to be done again. Some believe that there was life before Adam and Eve. And if you stop to think about, he did flood the world once and leave only Noah and his family. Maybe it wasn't the first time. There are other "facts" to support this belief that I cannot remember at the moment, but is is very fascinating.

I've heard a few theories on this...

- I've heard that because we don't know how old Adam was when Cain got married, and because lifespans were so long then,Cain may have gotten married well after Adam and Eve had many other children, grandchildren, etc.

I believe Adam and Eve were the first and that there DNA was so perfect that they were able to inbreed their children until the DNA became dilluted to where they could no longer. They lived almost a millenium. They probably had hundreds of children. Don't be so self-centered that you judge other people of different times and cultures, different DNA qualities. All you need is the word of God. Science has often confirmed the bible, never proven any of it wrong.

What's the problem? Cain married one of his sisters before he went to the land of Nod.
