only to end up travelling further with new found friends in hostels??

i always liked that idea of travelling to far away places and getting to know new people to travel around with.

I got it in my head to jump on my motorcycle and ride on down to Daytona Beach,Florida for Bike Week when I was 20.
I lived (and still do) in the Washington DC area. That's just a little over 800 miles. That's a hard trip on a bike!
I only had a few hundred dollars in my pocket, and no money in the bank.I couldn't afford hotels,so I slept at rest stops.
I met all kinds of cool people on the way down.
Once I had to stop under a bridge in Georgia because it started raining REAL heavy.More than one person pulled over, driving in the comfort of a truck with their bikes on trailers,to offer me beers or sandwiches. They'd stay long enough to chew the fat and then get on down the road.
Once I made it to Daytona the older bikers kept buying me beers after hearing my story.
I'd have to sit here all night typing to tell the whole story, but it ended well.
I was FLAT BROKE after a day of being there.I was wondering how I was going to get back to Maryland,or if I should even try.I was young.I toyed with the idea of getting a job down there and just staying.
My second day there I ran into my DAD!
He put me up in his hotel room for the rest of the trip, and loaded my bike on the trailer with his for the trip back home!
Awesome trip! I'll never do it again, but I don't regret it!

Between the age of 14-18 I was already used to travel alone. I flew to Singapore, Tokyo, and Miami and stayed with host families. I, then, traveled to Kualalumpur, Brunei, Osaka, Okinawa, Las Vegas, NYC and DC with the new friends and the family I met there.

loki not necissarily EASIER but SAFER....i myself have traveled on my own...but have met someone at the destination.

However i have moved out of state and out of town from friends and family on several occasions and i do consider that "traveling" , and i did have to go out and meet people and find friends in each and every situation.
The nice thing with moving and traveling around is you don't have to worry about a "reputation".. ; )
