Without a doubt, hands down, the best thing I have ever found for a cold sore is a medication called "RELEV". You can find it at a drug store, (not all drugstores have - I know Walgreens does). This should heal it in 1 or 2 days! Don't know if it works for everyone this way, but it puts everything else to shame. It is pretty expensive though, so prepare to pay $20 to $25 for a little tube.

Cold sores — also called fever blisters — are quite different from canker sores, a condition people sometimes associate them with. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and they're contagious. Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. If you experience frequent bouts, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication to treat cold sores. Using a medication may shorten the duration of cold sores and decrease your pain.

This is called herpetic gingivostomatitis - it is caused by herpes type 1. Usually, these go away on their own and any treatment will only shorten the duration by 1 day. Also, cold foods nad oral fluids are good and also decrease dietary arginine like nuts and chocolate and cereals may help. If it doesn't go away, think about going to a doctor and ask him to look at it.
