The main risk is that they make you look cheap, easy and trashy.

I don't know if there are any serious risks such as blood clots, since I'm not a doctor. I am, however, a fairly informed 60 year old woman, and I can tell you that I have never read nor heard of any serious health risks from hickeys. Hickeys are, in effect, bruises caused by the breaking of small blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
A person with sensitive skin might bruise more easily, and some people take longer than others to heal, but eventually the bruise will heal.
Hickeys are bruises to the neck, and can be unsightly (though some people like to show them off as proof of having a sexual partner, or to give hickeys to show their "territory").
I think someone was just trying to scare you, but to be extra sure, you could ask your doctor.
I would be more worried about sexually transmitted disease or unwanted pregnancy if you are sexually active. You should discuss this with a gynecologist to get accurate information. There is ALOT of inaccurate information put out by friends, family, etc. Be sure to check with a RELIABLE SOURCE of information. There is alot of bad info on the internet, too.
Good luck, and be responsible to yourself.

I met a doc once who told me the only risk associated with an hickey was a kicking abdominal tumour called "Pregnancy"- not that there is direct cause and effect- ... there are no long term dermatological consequences of an hickey, and, decidely, they do not cause "blood clots". They are simply a bruise.

A hickey is just a bruise. A skin irritant. I don't think I have ever heard of any health risks unless you are a bleeder. They just look terrible that's all.

no blood clots but if he were to suck really really hard, you could have a bruise that could take a couple of yrs to go away. Don't let your bf give you hickeys to begin with. They look trashy and make a girl look cheap.

its just a bruise, if you have sensitive skin it may come easier or not leave as fast as some other people. but thats it, the risks are the same as getting a bruise.
