Everyday when I come home from work, when I walk through the front door into the common hallway, I smell weed. It could only be our one neighbor which shares the front door with us. We have tried subtle ways of passing (we wrote an anonymous letter) our feeling about this on to the pot smokers and all we got was extra smelly air fresheners in the hall. Now we smell weed and a horrible air freshener. What do you think would be the best way to get them to stop? I don't think our 8 year old daughter needs to be smelling it everyday.

Our neighbor is also the apartment maintenance man.

well, considering you don't need your 8 year old asking you for extra snacks because she's got the munchies...you need to do something about this problem. i'm sure it can be a touchy subject if you go to the management office, considering he works for them, but if you plan on staying there for awhile, then you're better off at least saying something.

i agree with other posters that 911 is reserved for emergency calls, but you could always call their non-emergency number. it depends on where you live, but if it's not a neighborhood that's worried about crime and death, then they should be able to handle it correctly.

just remember that as the weather gets warmer, the smell is only going to get worse as you start to open your windows and they open theirs.

good luck :)

Since you mentioned that you and your neighbor share a "common hallway" I assume you live in an apartment complex/condo. If so, you could also send an anonymous letter /phone call to the main management office explaining your concerns. If all fail, the bottom line is that weed is illegal and the use of any illegal drug is a crime. You can report them (anonymously as well) to the police.

I would not report them to the authorities right away, that would only create bad blood. and un-needed drama.

You should confront them in person and tell them that you are aware of their recreational activities and you have an 8 year old daughter who does not need to smelling the illicit herb.

Advise them to invest in an ionic breeze, oust air freshener, or not smoke at home. Remind them that if this continues you will have to report them to the police.

If they choose to disrespect you, than call the police.

I have this same problem as well, but it's from the chuba monkeys across the street--can you believe it wafts across the street, into our patio??? They brazenly sit out front and get it on with mary jane. We've tried calling the non emergency line, but by the time the cops get there, the tweakers are gone. Keep calling the police to report them, and do one better, if you can, get the license plates of the folks visiting them. It helps for the drug investigation.

Try Oust. If that doesn't work, call the police. You can be anonymous. Smoking pot is against the law. And your 8 yr. old is a good reason to call the cops.

I don't think 911 is the answer but it seems close. 911 is for emergencies only. Call your local police department and let them know that there is a ominous smell of marijuina eminating from your neighbors area. Especially if you have children, you don't want them around that. The least they can do is check it out.

If it actually bothers you, try a negative ion generator. Rent one from an equipment place before you buy to see if its works for you. Be sure to get the kind which emits as little ozone as possible.

Report it to the police. Have them investgate it.

Sending them an anonymous letter will only make them laugh and do it more. UNTIL they are caught.

Are you renting or leasing your apartment/house? If you are contact the property management company or the landlord. Try calling the non-emergency police line.

Buy him a little exhaust fan for his window. Tell him to seal around his door with weather stripping. explain you don't want your daughter smelling it in the hallway.

Beyond that you might have to contact the landlord.
