I am working on losing weight all over, but my lovehandles are not going away. I like to work out and i am a member at a local gym. I am really self concious about my lovehandles.

I have not been extremely overweight and i do no need cosmetic surgury. I am 5'7" and weight 157 lbs. I like to work out and run, so if there is any specific exercize that i could do, it would make me happy, but there may not be, so oh well.

If you have been very overweight in the past, and you are now loosing weight and getting back to a normal weight, firstly, congratulations on all your hard work.
Secondly, you can try doing exercises that target the obliques and transverse abdo muscles to try and tighten up your love handle regions, however, sometimes no matter how much you do in this area, the skin has been stretched so much from being overweight, that the only way to get rid of the love handles is to have cosmetic surgery. This is something to discuss with your doctor in the context of everything else you are doing.

Hi Haw,

The dreaded love handles...I hear ya.

Well glad to see that you already know that spot reduction (fat loss) is not possible.

The biggest thing you need to do is to find a fitness professional you trust and can provide you with both Nutritional and Exercise advice.

As most may or may not know "the first place fat goes...is usually the LAST place it wants to leave"!

Even with a solid exercise program and nutritional plan you will see results (if you follow it correctly and if it was designed with your goals in mind) but of course you may get rid of fat in areas other than your prefered spot first.

Again...spot reduction is not possible in terms of fat loss so just understand that consistancy in follow a well developed game plan is key.

Information, Application, Time, Dedication and Discipline are needed to get your desired fitness goal.

As for being self conscious...congrats!

You know have one new motivator to follow through on your fitness goal.

Trust your fitness professional and give your self time...it usually takes quite a bit of time to get out of shape (although its a lot quicker than getting back into shape) so small goals that are geared towards the end result will be best.

What can you do about lovehandles---plenty! However there is no such thing as spot reduction, however you can subtract inches from your waist! How do you loose the love handles? Cardio Cardio and more cardio. What's up with situps reigning the scene when it comes to love handle abandoment? Sit ups strengthen your ab muscles but you cant see those muscles if you have fat surronding them, right?

Make sure you also focus on nutrition. It is more important to fat loss than weightlifting and cardio put together. However, keep working out because that is necessary too. Here some links to info about fat loss, nutrition, and a sample meal plan.

what you do is do side bends like when you are standing straight up take either your left or right arm over your head and bend side ways until it hurts or pinches your otherside thats not straight hold it there or about 10-15 sec and then do it to the other side, repeat as many as 5 times for 20 min everyday.
