There are two types of odor to armpits. The first is the body-odor type. We perspire, including the armpits. Because the armpits stay moist and warm, ordinary bacteria can easily breed there. As the bacteria increase, they give off more of a byproduct of their own metabolism, which is what causes the odor.
The other type of odor is more subtle. We give off chemicals called "pheromones", which act as a sexual attractant to certain other people.
