You want to construct a magneto. The best forumula for that is using two coils made from electric wire which rotate around two poles of a fixed magnet. The law of induction dictates that the faster the wire is rotated, the more likely electrons will flow in relation to ground. That lights up the filament in the bulb.

Think of a magneto is nothing more than an electric generator. The only difference is, you do the cranking or you use an engine to do it for you. But you will have to use mechanical energy to turn the coils to produce the power.

Easiest (and most expensive) way is to buy a sufficient number of 1.5 volt dry cells and wire them in series. For 120 volts (standard household voltage for lighting) you need 120/1.5 = 80 dry cells.

Be careful! That many D-cells will give you a NASTY shock and possible burns.

If you try to illuminate, say, a 100 watt light bulb with this battery pack, you will exhaust the cells in just a few minutes.
