Where do you people live?!?!
A 1 bedroom in a nice neighborhood in Manhattan is $2500-$3000/month for a 500 sqft to 700 sqft place.

Off the top of my head, I'd say about $1300. I always hear about people looking for a 1-bedroom for $1200 and they have a lot of trouble finding one in any area that's acceptable. A friend of mine was thrilled to have found a large, 1 room studio for $900 last year. It's all the way north in the Bronx, just by Yonkers.
I haven't heard of anyone finding ANYTHING that was under $1000 in a long time. I live in WIlliamsburg, Brooklyn and my rent is now about $960. I've been here 10 years and it's rent stabilized. It's a 2 bedroom place and the landlord wants me out because they are now renting the 2 bedroom apartments in my building for about $1750. There are now 1 bedroom apartments in my building going for about $1300+. I don't live on a 'good' block, there are junkies that hang out in my building and the front door to the street doesn't lock. It's not like I'm talking about some luxury place or anything.

area, area, area. How a lot it expenditures will remember a lot on precisely the position that's, how vast the rooms are (there truly is not any "usual" in NYC), even if that's what real resources brokers call a "real" 2 mattress room (be careful to ask even if that's! each each now and then what's termed a 2 mattress room would not easily have 2 real bedrooms - i actually laughed the first time I heard this at the same time as i replaced right into a lot youthful. i do not snigger anymore.) also, a lot is determined by even if that's "pre-conflict" or no longer. The prewar homes are nicer, yet no longer always in tremendous structure (each each now and then, inspite of the actuality that, they're in additional beneficial useful structure than more beneficial cutting-aspect homes, because they were outfitted out of more beneficial sturdy elements.) Pre-conflict houses oftentimes do not have elevators - yet some do. yet they're nicer, roomier, with more beneficial ceilings, more beneficial useful built, and prettier. In different words, you may ought to work out any homestead you've an activity in. also, bypass back at diverse circumstances of day and diverse days of the week to work out in case you actually want to stay there. sturdy success.

Agree, $2500. is typical for a one bedroom apartmet. Why do people answer that have no idea what they are talking about. $800 for an apartment stupid. I lived in midtown for 18 years, trust me, there are no apartments, not even a closet for that price..

Something decent-- 800 dollars. And it'll probably be in Morningside Harlem which isn't too bad... I would look into Brooklyn or Queens. Avoid Bed-stuy Brooklyn no matter how cheap it is to live there.
