The important thing is that a couple is coming together and sharing their love for each other ... the big elaborate ceremony and the huge 500 person reception is just a bonus. If the couple doesn't want any of that, it doesn't make their union any less special. Different people celebrate in different ways and that should be respected.

It's personal decision. I know people that spent thousands & thousands of dollars on a wedding & get divorced soon after. My husband & I were married by a judge & have been happily married for almost 16 years now. I would not have changed a thing about our wedding - just us & the judge - very personal.

The important thing is getting married. It doesn't matter if it's in a church, on a beach, in a courthouse, or wherever. It's the marriage that's the important thing.
You're talking about a wedding "reception" a totally different thing than a wedding.

This is a very personal decision... the result for both is the same though.
Some dont want to give up the "dream wedding" others could care less as long as they are married to the love of their life.

It depends on the people involved. To me, a wedding was just a good excuse to party and have fun. We had an untraditional, informal fun wedding, and it worked out great. I wouldn't want to just go to the courthouse, the whole idea was to make it lots of fun.

Personally, I wanted to go to vegas, but the thought alone made my mother have a meltdown so I'm now having a very small wedding. I think it's jus a personal preference.

The couple should do whichever they want more. If the ceremony is not a big deal to you, a courthouse wedding is fine. It's about the union of the couple, not about what others think.

Not. What matters is you two. Weddings don't matter a bit, and they take longer to pay off, which puts stress on you both.

I don't think there's anything "just" about getting married. In my opinion, it's a monumentous event, and should be treated accordingly. Maybe the reason so many marriages fail is because too few people view it as such.
