Just some clarifications .....

"Holy" actually means sacred, or blessed. Nothing about pure or clean.

The only record I recall of Jesus actually drinking wine is the last Passover, as was the nature of the celebration.

However he did turn water into wine at a wedding feast (his first miracle) and I do not think he would do that if it was forbidden to drink alcohol.

The apostle Paul advised to Timothy (I think it was ) that a little wine was good for the stomach.

But there are warnings against over-indulgence, being a drunkard, etc.

Being an alcoholic is not a sin. It is a physical dependency which is the result of sin (i.e. drunkeness), the same as being over-weight because of gluttony and slothfullness.

Also it is right about the body being a temple and made in the (spiritual) likeness of God. Therefore we should keep it pure. That rules out smoking, but a very moderate enjoyment of alcohol does not appear to be ruled out.

Just my two cents worth .....

Far as smoking goes, it's a sin to your health, not to your soul and it isn't mentioned in The Word by that description. If you read the book of Ecclesiastes, it was written to the man who walks under the sun and tells all human flesh beings how to be healthy. Same applies to alcohol with the exception of a glass of wine or two for the good of the tummy, meaning, not for the purpose of getting drunk but to calm yourself a bit. For the record, alcoholism could be a sin to the soul since it also distorts the way you think. Not saying it is but it could be. It's up to God to decide that.

Being the Hebrews had no way to prevent the fermentation of grape juice into wine, and they drank wine, I cannot see where the Bible forbids it. Considering tobacco wasn't "discovered" in Western civilization until the 17th Century, I can't see how the Bible can forbid it since it cannot possibly mention it.

Smoking is not mentioned although there is this verse that could apply to something like smoking having control over a person so that it vies for supremacy in their life with what God might desire for them to do.

1 Corinthians 6:12 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.

As to drinking, the Bible warns agains being a "drunkard" saying that a drunkard will not inherit the Kingdom of God. There is no Biblical prohibition against having a glass of wine with your dinner like Jesus did.

Esther 5:6
6 As they were drinking wine, the king again asked Esther, "Now what is your petition? It will be given you. And what is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be granted."

i don't know if it say's anywhere it's a sin, but here's proof positive men shouldn't drink and then try to pick up women. ;)

(thought we could use a bit of humor)

it does say the body is a temple but it is referring to contaminating it by being with a prostitute jesus said it is not what enters your body thru your mouth but what leaves it thru you mouth that is the sin referring to the jews telling the gentils it was a sin to eat pork or shellfish jesus said it is a matter of conviction and if you are convicted it is a sin for you to eat or drink certain things but if you are not convicted and dont feel guilty for say drinking alcohol then it is not a sin as long as you dont be a drunkered because that is clearly stated as a sin

Jesus drank wine so I can't say it says not to drink, although it does say to be moderate. There was no smoking in that part of the world back then so of course it wasn't addressed, one of my favorite pastors said you can smoke and go to heaven, in fact you'll get there faster.

Its doesn't .not as for as i know.getting drunk could be considered a sin, though.over eating could be, vanity could be, murder is, hate is , not forgiving could be. lust could be. drunkenness could be.i have read it a few times. a sin is anything though that comes between you and the guidance of the spirit.that's all sin is, just about anything could be a sin if it stands between you and the holy spirit of God
we are supposed to be true vehicles so we may channel that spirit into the world

You can't drink or smoke in the bible - the pages would either get all wet or you'd set fire to them.
