Jesus said, "Why do you call me good? Only God is Good (all the time).".

Jesus didn't say he wasn't the Son of the Living God. Jesus is Good (all the time) and also lived on earth without sin. As a matter of fact, when Peter confesses Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God; Jesus said that it was the Father God who enlightened/ quickened this to him. That on this Rock Jesus will build His Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail.

Jesus operated on earth as a human being anointed with the Holy Ghost. Jesus is the example for the Church to follow. Jesus is the Seed of the Woman (Genesis 3), born without sin nature, yet was tempted like the first Adam & did not sin. So, He raised from the dead. The wages of sin is death.

Jesus is the Son of God. Elohim (God) the Father, Word & Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Word of God (Elohim). Jesus is the Bread that came down from heaven. In Genesis 1, In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth. Without the Father, Word or Holy Spirit, nothing would have been created. We are made in the image of God also. A body, soul & spirit.

This is Jesus' way of drawing people to the conclusion that He is God.
Very seldom did Jesus directly say that He was God. He was asking the man for his motives in calling Him "good."
If he meant what he has said about Jesus, then the man was attributing to Jesus one of the Divine attributes: goodness.

If the man was just being "nice" then his statement was worthless and deserved scolding, because we are all sinners.
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Ecclesiastes 7:20
Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins.

Jesus later asked His disciples this:
Matthew 16:13-16
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
15 He said* to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Now then, who do you say that Jesus is?

He was making a point. He was God and also man. 100% God and 100% man. Don't ask me its a mystery.
Anyway, he knows the hearts of all men. Maybe he knew that man did not believe he was the Son of God, just a good teacher.
Just a theory. But, the point that he is making is that only God is Good. God is saying that about himself.

Flugelberry, Jesus did say that I and the Father are one. He that has seen me has seen the Father.

HE was saying that we should worship GOD, as He,Jesus did. He always pointed to the FATHER. I think He also wanted us to remember that all things come through GOD. GOD the Father, GOD the Son and GOD the Holy Spirit.
It is never a good idea to try to put GOD in a box. HE is not as man is and therefore not subject to the same restrictions.

He isn't God. Interestingly enough, the trinity concept came from the pagan beliefs of the Babylonians, and Constantine fuzed them into christianity whenever he came into power and was trying to cater to both religions. Also, in Egyptian mythology, the trinity was Osiris, Isis, and their son Horus. The trinity is a pagan belief that originally had nothing to do with true christianity. Jesus is the son of God. The holy spirit, or ghost, is God's active force, like the electricity that comes from a power plant. The holy spirit comes from God. Jesus is is his son, and God is the supreme spirit being. So you're right! Jesus can't be God.

Jesus is God's son sent to this earth to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus is also right by saying that God is good since it is true that God is good. Jesus was only letting this person know that God was good.

Was he scolding? It is taught that no man is good and yet Christ was perfect in the same book can you please explain this? Could the apparent answer be that Jesus was God in the flesh that atoned for the sins of man as the same book will tell you?

Did Jesus ever claim to be God? I don't think so. Man has proclaimed him as part of the Holy Trinity, but no one has claimed that Jesus and God were the same. He has been called the Son of God, but that isn't the same as being God.

Jesus is God's son. Maybe he wanted that person to not call him good, but instead his father?

As a man, he was subject to the temptations of mankind. Even Jesus was tested by god.
