i am 21 yrs old, and about 20 lbs overweight. I just feel like clueless about how to loose weight. I mean, i know they say eat right and excersize but ive never lost weight! (not that ive tried THAT hard) I feel like my body clings onto the fat. I dont wanna do anything to drastic cause i know ill give up on it if i do.
My question is, what can i do, thats basic, that will make me loose weight?

Try weight watchers (go to www.weightwatchers.com to find one near you). It's relatively inexpensive, and it will put you in the right direction -- teach you what you should be eating, what you should avoid, and teach you to track what you eat. Plus, people tend to be more accountable when they 1.) are paying for a meeting and 2.) Have to get on a scale every week!
You don't have to buy their food, either!

I think the reason alot of people don't like exercising is because they aren't too motivated to do it, I'm sure if somebody offered you a reward to lose weight you would jump and be really motivated and excited to do so, basically you have to be your own cheerleader stay positive and be willing to make that change to better your life I'm sure you don't need me to tell you all the fabulous things that will come from having a great self esteem. I would suggest two major things #1 enroll either in a aerobics class, dance class, karate or just go roller blading, if you have a dog take him for a walk just make sure that whatever you do its fun and doesn't really feel like something your being forced to do. The second thing is educate yourself on moderation do NOT diet if you love foods that aren't so good for you eat them im moderation if you burn calories by enjoying a fun activity and by using common sense on what foods are better for you you'll lose those extra 20lbs in no time!! Stay positive and be excited about taking care of your body it's completely worth it, good luck:)

Eat 6 small but balanced meals to keep up your metabolism. Make sure that the carbohydrates are high in fiber and that the protein is lean. This will keep you in a caloric deficit and the frequent meals will prevent you from getting hungry.

Also, your exercise program should include weightlifting because the increased lean mass will burn extra calories on a 24 hour/day basis. Cardio also helps.

Here are some links to a sample meal plan, a sample workout, and some info on fat loss.

Eat 3 meals a day, and healthy snacks, like fruit, cut up veggies.
How often do you eat at fast food? About 2 years ago, I quit eating french fries, and most deep fried food altogether.
Eat whole grains, nuts, veggies, fruits, drink water, eat some dairy. If you must have pie, cake, etc, have about 1/2 the size you used to eat. Then you won't feel 'I can't have anything'.
Walking is great, or whatever you're into.
Basically if you don't eat lots of fat, and don't eat 2 plates of food at a meal, you'll lose weight. It may take awhile to get your body going, but if you do this, you'll lose weight.

cut back from your eating, try to break unhealthy habits like eating after 8, not eating breakfast. Those small changes will make a difference. I'm 20lbs overweight myself. I'm 5'7 and 170lbs. My doctor wants me at least 150, so and also I've been walking through out the day. I started out walking a mile a day at a brisk pace, and now I've eased my way up to 3 sometimes 4 miles a day at a vigirous pace. Now I'm changing ways that I was so used to doing like parking right at the door at work and things like that. I park in the last parking space available and walk to the buildings, I take stairs. So if you start off with small things then you can progress to bigger things. I hope you reach your goal.

Hello Jenina,

Very interesting name by the way.

As a qualified Fitness Professional service clients both online (through my fitness site) and in person I have heard others like yourself with this similar challenge.

Starting off basic is a great approach and one that I use with selected clients.

What you put in is what you get...but most importantly its quality over quantity.

It does take a little bit of time to reach a new goal but by setting smaller goals in between you will see and feel the results in a very short time frame.

You obviously know the basics that Nutrition/Supplementation, Exercise and Rest all play a vital role in the success towards optimal fitness.

Each part is needed and cannot be skipped out as it may show short term game but cause long term challenges and put you back farther than where you began.

The best advice to give you as a fitness professional is to work with one.

I can't speak for all of them but every one of my clients goes through some form of assessment to determine where we are starting in terms of overall health and fitness.

In person, we do a very comprehensive Computerized Fitness Assessment but with my online clients we utilize various health and fitness forms that you fill out to help me understand your health, fitness and lifestyle habbits.

With some email/phone conversation we then talk about what has been holding you back, what triggers you may have and what your end result is.

From there we break things down over smaller goals and I develope a game plan that includes exercise,nutritional/supplement advice and of course motivation through coaching.

The biggest challenge that most of my past clients and perhaps yourself has been sticking to the GAME PLAN and being accountable.

By working online with a fitness professional such as myself you will have a game plan and you will be accountable (weekly, monthly) in terms of tracking progress etc.

Online Fitness Coaching is a very affordable way to get advice and some of us have a great site that offers detailed animation on how to perform exercises as well as print with pic&written instructions for the program when you take it to your chosen workout place.

Indoors, Outdoors, Work or the Gym, regardless of where you wish to get your exercise in a program can be created specifically with your goals in mind.

YOU, have to want to lose weight and YOU also have to work with someone who can help YOU design, implement and be accountable for following the program.

Its up to YOU!

Yours in Health and Fitness,

Keep a food diary. Write down EVERYTHING you eat - you will soon discover you are eating more than you think. Be HONEST in your food dairy - EVERYTHING you eat!
