I have been cracking my ankles for like over 5 years. Nothing has happened to me at all. I crack my ankles everytime i go up stairs unvoluntarily so it's not that bad if your body does it naturally. If you're sitting there 24/7 just cracking your ankle joints over and over non stop then MAYBE something will happen. I know form an actual doctor that cracking you knuckles or ankles or knees or any other joint does no damage except possibly a higher possibility of getting moderate-bad arthritis or getting arthritis faster. DON'T CRACK YOU'RE BACK OR NECK THOUGH!!! If you crack those you can rearrange your spine and hurt it with sometimes permanate results. Then you'll have to wear a brace. =/ Ankles though, don't worry about it at all.

For the most part, that cracking is probably harmless. Cracking in your ankle usually occurs when your bone grows a small out cropping or bump. The tendons which attach you calf muscles to the bones in your ankle run over these bumps and make that cracking noise as they pass back and forth over the bump. If it is not painful, then it probably isn't due to joint damage.

No, it will not hurt you. That's an 'old wives tale'.
The sound you hear is tiny air bubbles being expanded and popping in the synovial fluid in the joint. It's harmless.
