shimano upgrade.?

I want to upgrade my shimano tiagra derailleur with a ultegra derailleur. My shifter is a rapidfire deore . I wonder if this is possible?

I am assuming that it is a 9 speed system. If that is the case, I don't see any problem. However,Tiagra is actually really good as it is. I can't see a real improvement by going up to Ultegra unless the Tiagra derailleur gave out.

Should be no problem. The shifter is the brain and the derailleur is the brawn........both are nine speed, no major adjustments after the set screws are set.
