I know that a lot of people are going to tell you that you shouldn't ask him back and move on, but ask yourself...would you be happy if you guys went out again? Only you can answer your questions.

First of all, he has broken a HUGE law in relationships: He CHEATED on you. Perhaps he thought you weren't giving him enough attention? Perhaps he was bored with you? But it shows that he was concerned when you went out with another guy and wanted to act all macho in front of you. Perhaps going out with another guy woke Zak up to how much he likes you.
Before you get back together with him, you must sit him down and discuss his betrayal (that's right... he BETRAYED you). You must express how deeply concerned you are about how he broke your heart and inquire why he did it. Before getting back with him, you need to lay down some ground rules for a relationship (if he complains that you're being too strict, tell him that he brought it on himself). No cheating, no text message breakups, etcetera. Then you must express how hurt you felt, once again and make him PROMISE to follow the relationship rules.
You just need to take the lead in a relationship. You BOTH must share the responsibilities of a mutual boyfriend/girlfriend moment. You need to get him to know that. If you truly think your relationship won't crash and burn again, go right ahead and get back with him. Though, TRUST comes before love. You must be able to trust him and he must be able to trust you. That's the only way you two can FLOURISh!

The question you need to ask yourself right now, is Do I respect myself? and if that answer is YES, than you need to not waste your time on Zak. If you take him back, than he knows that he can do it again and again, treating you like crap and cheating, because you let him back.
