Big subject, should start with the basics.
In Excel, you will notice letters across the top & numbers down the side. With cursor, click on any cell, you will see a letter & a number highlight. That is your location, examples: A3 or B7.
Click on A1, type 2 then hit enter (I'll call this )
Click on A2, type 4
You now should have a 2 with a 4 underneath it.
Click on A3, type =A1+A2, it will equal 6
Anytime you start something with =, it's an equation
Now change the 2 and the 4 to different numbers, watch A3 change
Click on A3, hit delete. This time type = then with the cursor click on A1 then type + then with the cursor click A2
You now have the same equation you typed in, but you picked the cells, change A1 & A2 to see.
You can add more than 2 cells, try putting numbers in many cells, then make an equation in any other cell to add them all together. You don't have to do this straight up & down, you can put your cells all over.
Also, you don't always have to add. Try -, * and /
Just play around with these functions, you'll catch on.
There are hundreds more functions, but this will get you started.

that's a lot to ask in such a sort time and over the internet.
see if your version has a tutorial. shouldn't take too long for the basis.
to total a column, left click to highlight which cells you want to add, then hit the auto sum icon. it looks like a Greek "E"
the formula for sum is
=sum(
then enter the cells you want to add either by clicking or typing them in. use the colon (:) to include all the numbers in that column, then enter
)
it should add up then.

It's kind of hard to explain in a paragraph, but I'll do my best!
To add, type
=sum(xx:xx) in the cell you want the sum in (xx is the cells you want added, ex. a1:b7 will add all cells from a1 to b7)
To add specific cells, type
=c1+c2+c3+c4 in the cell you want the sum in. You can add as many cells as you need, where I wrote c1, c2, ect... put the cells you want to add.
To subtract, do the same, but with a minus sign.
That's formulas in a nut shell! you can do any formula you want, just don't forget to put an = sign before it!
Hope this helps!

Couple of things you can do... you can use online tutorial at microsoft.com. Or you can take a class on Excel at your local community college... usually these are free or very inexpensive. Hope this helps - if you have any specific questions, please email me and i'll be happy to answer them if i can.
