First of all I am sorry for your loss. However I do want to ask a question. If you are on a small fixed income, why the hell did you have a dog and then let her have puppies? You should always have enough money to take them to the vet or have pet health insurance.

If you can't find a vet who will take a payment plan then take the puppies to a shelter that can actually take care of them so they can adopt them out to families in a better situation to care for them.

There are a series of issues here.

First, why did you breed your dog if you can't afford vet care? If you keep any of these pups, please neuter or spay them. If $$ is tight, go to your local Humane Society - they may do this for free (or at a substantially reduced cost). 9 out of 10 dogs born go into shelters - please don't contribute any more.

As for the dog food issue, please keep all evidence that you can. If your dog died, you may need proof from a vet that it was indeed due to liver or kidney failure that may have resulted from this food. Keep the cans, and get an autopsy done (if possible). This is a "hot item" now, so it's little wonder no phones are being answered. But a class action lawsuit may form, so find out all you can from the 'net or your vet.

Three, get a vet! Or call your local Humane Society. The good news is that if these pups were born on MLK day, they are now about 8 weeks old, meaning they would have been weaned and should be fine without their mother. They can eat dry food now. But they will still need their shots, deworming meds, etc. If your income is limited and you are disabled, clearly you can't care for 6 puppies. Call the Humane Society and see what they can do. If you want one pup for yourself, please have the Humane Society properly treat the dog (meds, deworming, neutering/spaying) first. Be sure to tell the Humane Society about the dog food the mother ate, just in case it did affect her pups.

Bottom line - take action now. Relying on some pet food company to tell you what to do won't accomplish anything. It's not as if this pet food company will suddenly give you $$. You have to go through another route.

Good luck to you and the pups!

a group is in process of forming for this, the company cannot be sued due to protection of the law- and terms, however the company will be compensating pet owners for their expenses with medical cost.
My advice is keep trying to get through, they are really busy but people are getting through, when she calls them, have any food packets, receipts etc.
They will ask for the upc codes from the packaging.

Your friend cannot afford to take them to the vet, of course do not give them anymore of that dog food- keep a close eye on them, if they appear sluggish, thirsty more than usual, weak, urinating or spotting unusually, vomiting or watery stool, then they need immediate medical attn.
Clinics such as animal shelters will often times see dogs and cats for a small price or donation. Check the shelters in the area, if they do not offer these services, ask them if they know of anyone who does.
Thanks for being such a faithful, loving friend to this girl. She is a lucky lady to have you in her life, especially during this time. Hugs to you
Karen

Are these puppies or kittens? Depending on which you need to go to the pet store and get some milk supplement. Make sure you get the one for kittens if they are kittens and the one for puppies if they are puppies. The supplement should give you the amount you should feed. If you can't afford this then by all means call your local humane society and see if they can help you or at least take the kittens. I'm sorry you lost your pet/friend but you can't let her babies die. Sp if that means giving them up to the humane society so they can provide for them then you should.

How old are the puppies? If they are over 8 weeks old, then you can feed them the same food as you eat. But don't feed them a lot of chocolate since it will make them sick. The best thing to feed them is steak, chicken, some pork and vegetables. There is a rule about giving dogs the same food as we eat, it is said that if you would not eat it and you would throw it in the garbage then do not feed it to your dog. I had dogs all my life and the one I have now is 8 years old and would not eat the canned dog food so we needed to feed him stuff off the table. The same with our last dog, he lived to be nearly 16 years old.

While you are waiting for someone to pick up the phone you need to go get the puppies replacement milk. Whether you can afford it or not. At least get them enough to last them until you can get some help from a rescue. Start calling rescues. Do an internet search for your area and see if you can get some help that way. Try the humane society as well.

call your local vet and explain the situation . Vets in my experiance will help out even if you cant pay them, or they can suggest where to get help.

An animal shelter or breeders group could help too.

The pet food company is buried in people trying to get information , find out how to make claims and answer questions. I would not count on getting any help from them quickly.

ok. what you should do to keep them warm is keep them wraped in blankets. and to feed them you should heat up a bottle with milk in it and make sure it has a small nipple on it or the puppies wont be able to drink. you have to do this on a regular basis. But if they are older than 3 or 4 weeks feed them soft food only. and if you wont be able to do this call some friends or family members and see if they will be able to help you.

Call a local animal shelter and ask them what to do. They can probably take the babies and care for them if nothing else.
