Christians BEFORE tradition stated that the angel Gabriel appeared to him? Based on this, would not one see that Islam (meaning submission to God) was created based on the other 2 religions with a lot of Arab tradition/culture mixed in?

Pls. this is an honest question with no insult intended.

rt66lt: You are correct in what you say, but his cousin Waraqah ibn Nawfa was well acquainted and therefore Muhammed became acquainted also.

There is a certain portion of any group that will take the extreme view point of anything, such as the extreme Christians, you h ave the same with the Muslims. There a zealots in each religious group.

One group interrupt their version of their bible one way while another interrupt it a different.

Your bringing up the fact the Muslims are to be submissive to God will be interrupted in many different ways.

So your point of view could be taken well in the context that you present it would be differently interpreted by another.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

I was aware that he knew of them, and thought that they were mistaken. That may sound like he made up the Qur'an on his own, but I would ask you how, then, did he write the Qur'an so accurately? Scientifically speaking, that is?

You could say that he and his wife made this up, but when he first saw the angel Gabriel, he was so frieghtened that he ran home to his wife.

Edit: Muslims believe that Jews and Christians are also followers of God. Muslims believe that Islam is a continuation of "The One Religion." Muslims believe that the Torah (or Old Testament) and the new testament are also God's words.

Muslims view this question the way Einstein would view somebody telling him that he just stole ideas from Isaac Newton and added a few "stuff."

Peace.

We do not argue Christianity and Juddhism. We argue the fact that the original texts of both these relegions were tampered with by humans, so we can't be sure of thier validity.

If the texts of both these relegions were still in thier original form. They would have conveyed the same message which is that God is one and that (the prophet of that time) is his messenger. Given that the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is the last messenger, with the final message (Islam) we are to follow his teachings.

I am not a Muslim, but you are somewhat incorrect. Mohammad was in contact with some Jews and Christians prior to the birth of Islam, but being illiterate, he was not familiar with their scriptures.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was given the revelation of the Qur'an from Allah (SWT), which is the Criterion of the scriptures that came before it.

Aside from the fact that there is no evidence that Mohammed was in anyway literate, it is true that Mohammed, at the very least, was fairly well acquainted with Jewish ritual practices as he modeled much of Islamic ritual after Jewish practices.

I believe Muhammed created the Qur'an around the Bible. Muhammed had 25 years to work on Qur'an.
