I am a nine grade chinese kid, i want to be a Marine after i graduate High School. But the problem is that my mom thinks being a Marine is most risky than Army and others. She wants me to be in army instead. But dying is not a problem for me , I am not saying that I want to die!! Do you think i should join the marine without her permission? I really have no problem with the army but i just want to challenge myself just a little more.

Listen i have pretty much the same problem but if its where your heart truely lies then go for it thats what i am doing, dont change your plans for your life because of someone else especially your parents, all they wanna do is protect you and theres nothing wrong with that, but you need to know that its YOUR life and you need to make your own decisions, plus you technically dont need permission after your 17 1/2 i do believe, but do what you feel is best

It is not more of a challenge to join as a marine rather than the army. Each branch has different types of job(MOS) to offer, if its a challenge your after; try going special forces, or better yet try being a teacher in the inner cities!:) Research, research, research!

When you reach 18, you do NOT need a parents permission to join the Marines. If you are a glutton for punishment, the Marines will be more than happy to oblige you in boot camp.

When you are ready, try and lure a Marine recruiter to the house to talk to your mom. They can better explain the Marine Corps, it's traditions, it's training, and it's preparedness. The chances for survival is much better amongst troops who are better trained and better prepared, and that is what makes the Marine Corps a wiser choice.

As an Army vet who served two years in Iraq, one of which was with the Marine Corps in a joint assignment, I say you can't go wrong either way. Go for it!

if you join the army, you will ALWAYS wonder if you could have been a US Marine, and you will never ever know. If your mom doesnt like the marines, she shouldnt join.

Your are only in the 9th grade, you have plenty of time to make-up your mind. You can't sign up until you are 18 without permission anyways. Follow your Dream.

When you are old enough, that decision is all yours. Just be ready to show her the reasons you chose the Marines.

Listen kid,

The government uses the armed forces as cannon fodder. Do you want to go to iraq so that a few billionaires can get richer? Do you really think they will use you to spread freedom? They will court you with college money. Look up slow kill warfare. Look up agent orange. Look up how 100,000 us soldiers who went to iraq in 1991 all went to the v.a. hospitals with "mysterious diseases". Look up how all the guys are coming back from iraq without legs and once healthy young men are now sick from who knows what. They inject you with vaccines when you join and before you go to war so that in about five years you get very sick because they know that after fighting for five years for them in a war, you will begin to hate your own govt. Look it all up. Look up alex jones, martial law on google start there. Just check this stuff out and ,ake your own decisions. Peace dude.
