Im 16 and I got my tongue pierced on March 17th. Today is the 3rd full day of having my tongue piercing. My tongue is a little swollen right now and hurts. But what worries me is how the bottom ball is digging into my bottom gum. It hurts really bad, and is making my mouth sore and my teeth feeling loose. Is it supposed to do that? I talked to some people who already have theirs done and they said its normal, and your bar bell is probably too long for your mouth. They also said that when its healed, the bar bell should have room and the ball shouldn't be digging into my gums anymore. Plus I could also change it and put a smaller bar bell in. I don't know though. Please give me some details and your answers on this.

Yeah, its normal, and very annoying, ive got my tongue pierced 3 times, 1 normal one and then a set of venoms, i just took the bottom ball off and put a smaller ball on the bottom part of the barbell, it helps but not by much, the piercer puts a longer barbell in your mouth so when your tongue swells up it doesnt swell over the barbell, dont switch barbells, just the bottom ball, in about 2 weeks youll be able to switch the barbell out.

We also talk to patients about piercings. What they told you is probably true about it being to long. You also should try to keep it away from your teeth it can cause tiny fractures at the top of the teeth or down by the gumline-which may cause the gum to move down from where it is supposed to be. Make sure you're using listerine daily-they probably told you this 2x day 30 sec each. May sure you brush the bar and ball too. I know that you just got it so I'm not going to take it out-just be aware of damage it may do and be careful. Take care of your mouth and teeth too to limit risk of infection.

The longer ball/bar needs to stay in there till your 100% healed. That way if your tongue swells the bar doesnt get inplanted in your tongue. Sounds pretty normal till ya heal. Dont change it..

Take the tongue piercing out. Tongue piercings can cause your gums to receed (bad). And receeded gums do not grow back, ever. Also anytime you visit the dentist you will be required to take it out if they need to take xrays, because it gets in the way. They may also have you take it out to clean your teeth, cause it may get in the way. Any mouth piercing is a BAD idea with concerns for your teeth and gums.
