I like revolution, seems to work better, so is the one i recommend. Frontline didn't work all that great when I had fleas on my own cats, but it works good in dogs. Don't remember using advantage.....
Putting it on the stomach wont hurt AS LONG AS he doesnt lick it off. If you do decide to put it there instead of the shoulder blades, you should place an e-collar for a day. I totally understand maltese hair :-) But you should try the neck first, just part the hair and start very high up and work your way down the back.

I use Advantage. I've tried Frontline but did not find it as effective.
Don't put it on the stomach because your dog can lick its stomach. Take it from someone who accidentally got some in her mouth, you don't want to take your dog there.
I also unintentionally applied it too low on the back of my cat and she licked it. She ran around the house, foaming at the mouth, I thought she was having a fit until I realized what had happened.
Part the hair along your dog's spine, find skin and put it there. It disperses across the body on its own.

They're both good but Frontline is my favie. Technically you can put it on the stomach, but they can lick or wipe it off.
You should be able to get it on the skin on the back no problem, if your dog will hold still a bit, or someone can hold him! Part the hair with your fingers until you can see a bit of skin. Also put the drops in several different places from the back of the neck to the base of the tail - this helps it soak in, it tends to flood all over the fur if you put it all in one place.

I use K9 advantix. It works against both flea's and tick's. I have used it for many years now on my dogs and have no problems what so ever. I had german shepard/husky mix with long hair also and I just seperated the hair out on his neck and applied the k9 advantix. Please do not put this medication any where else on the dog beside the nap of the neck. The reason for this is because the dog cannot lick the back of his/her neck and therefore will avoid getting sick or even dying from ingesting the medication. If you put it somewhere the dog can lick you risk the dog licking it.

I have never tried advantege, but I use Frontline Plus and love it. As for the long hair, my dog has long hair too, but if you part the hair and run the tube along the skin it will work and not stick on hair.

you need to put these on the back of the dog. the reason is that if they can get to it they will lick it. you dont want them to ingest any of it.
try to get a fine comb and brush the hair till you get a nice line and you can see the skin. once you pour it on, kind of comb the hair back to cover it. i use about 2/3 of advantage. there is jst to much in the tube for a small dog.

both are fine just dont use hartz, hartz is very strong and many pets react to it and seize. Only use topical flea product, and they only belong on the back of the neck about where the collar covers. You dont want your furry friend being able to lick it, otherwise they will get real sick. It is a poison.

The back of the Neck so the dog won't lick it off and it may make the dog sick if he licks it off.
