I am not talking about just in regards to relationships, but even to not being able to sign a long-term lease to live somewhere, make an ADVANCE reservation for a plane-even somewhere I want to go, make plans to get together with friends, make advance appointments for medical treatment. This society runs on schedules, advanced planning, signing leases, etc. and I freeze into paralysis with anxiety of being locked in to anything! Yes, that includes work (I freelance). I only can bear one day at a time. This is serious and I can't afford a therapist (which would require an advance appointment and money), so I would appreciate any help in this. It's destroying my life!

You are an excellent self-therapist and your reasoning is as good as your observations. Keep good notes and watch and pray. As you reach a more secure life you will lose this fear. A beggar fears losing his bowl greatly but a rich man never worries about a bowl. You are surviving and have protected yourself well from seeing reality and having a severe depression even a nervous breakdown. Look for others like yourself to be your real friends.

Salsa, this is scotishbob@yahoo.com remember only one t in scotishbob you can contact me there if you choose.

It seems to me that you a paranoia(sp) about planning ahead. While it is a serious problem, it is one that you can overcome but you need help, another person, to help relieve you of this malady. This person should have the time to be with you 24/7 for a couple weeks. At the start, do not plan anything....just roll with the flow and take life as it comes doing whatever seems natural at the time.

After becoming adjusted to being together, each evening discuss what each of you would like to do the next day but no not make a firm decision on the next days activities. After a couple of days of doing this, then start doing what you discussed.

Slowly over a period of time, you should (hopefully) be able to plan further and further into the future.

Just remember, if something happens that does not allow your plans to happen, just say oh well and keep going.

Hope to hear from you soon
Bob

You are right about the restrictons imposed by the U.S. society, especially in the large cities, but why not change societies instead of struggling with rearanging your true nature. Living in anxiety is part of what the U.S. way of life imposes upon sensitive souls. Explore a different culture, that caters to your needs and would thus be more suitable.
