Your a great owner and just keep loving her. Many will say that there is nothing you can do to heal her leg, and they are most likely right, they went through education for stuff like this. I'm sure it doesn't hurt, and your dog seems happy. Shes getting old, keep her same diet you had for her before, don't worry about losing weight. Keep her on a healthy walk every day, and if shes in the mood some playing. Don't overfeed her or underfeed her. I'm wiccan, and studying in healing, so I personally would try that. But I doubt you are wiccan, and I'm probably going to get blasted at by people trying to 'save' me. Ah well. Your doing a great job caring for her, and I'm sure she knows how lucky she is. Canines adapt much easier then people, after all, we were gaven a voice to satisfy our deep needs to complain. Your a great owner and I respect that there are still people like you caring for animals, much better than some other people. I wish you and your mans best friend good luck!
EDIT: Oh and don't give them medicine without your vets approval. I'm taking high school classes to become a vet, so I'm going by what I learned. Though it may make them fine in the short run, it may make them even worse in the long run. Especially human medicine, as some kinds can shorten a dogs life span.
You may want to try arthritis remedies, as long as it is not consumed into the dogs body. Search up 'arthritis remedies' and there are usually a BUNCH. (I use google)
If all you can find is stuff that needs to be swallowed, check with your vet first. The only stupid question is the one thats not asked. ^_^ Good luck!

There may truly be nothing you can do other than the things you're already doing, but as long as she's getting around ok and seems happy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Animals are VERY resilient. My old roommate had to have one of her cat's front legs amputated because of cancer, and that little critter learned to get around just GREAT on her three legs. It's almost like she didn't even miss the 4th leg. So try not to be too sad. Animals pick up on the emotions of their owners, so if you're sad, she'll be sad. If you act like everything's ok, she'll be ok !
I do agree with the idea of getting a second opinion, though. Vets have been known to make mistakes, just like anyone else.

Bit weird that it happened so suddenly - you might want to try a second opinion. I'm not saying the vet was wrong, but it's nice to be sure. Arthritis is usually more gradual onset. I'd double check the diagnosis I think.
Getting the dog to lose weight is good. Anyway, if it is arthritis there are many things that can help, like anti-inflammatories and supplements. Ask your vet what they can give you to help - and if they say not much, definitely get a second opinion!

Go straight to the grocery store and buy her "Glucosamine AND Chondroitin". Osteo BiFlex is one brand, but rather expensive......more reasonably priced brands are fine as long as they contain BOTH Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Give her one pill a day, and watch the magic happen. My 12 y/o Husky and 11y/o Lab could not even get up from their beds due to arthritis and the cold Alaska weather. I put them both on Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and within 2 weeks they were up and running like puppies again!!!! Now I always give it to my dogs, and have never had that problem again!

I don't know through experience but, maybe the doctors are right. Your dog probably isn't going to be able to walk on all fours again, but he seems like he doesn't mind. I've known dogs that have only three legs they don't notice and they are still very active. You may greif that your dog isn't normal but you shouldn't worry. You dog will be fine.

Your girl could be destined to walk on 3 legs , do you have a veterinarian teaching college by you? They might be more informative. I have my old guy who is 7 yrs. on Swiss Joint Care..1000 mg. Glucosamine,Chondroitin & MSM. One pill a day. It has helped him considerably, he is no longer stiff in his hind legs and he doesn't whine when he stands up.

⥠I'm so sorry â¥
I Know deep inside how it feels to come home and someting is just not right.
Well if she doesn't care about her leg than she will never heal it,everyone will have to work and LOVE is the main ingrediant!
I know i sound kind of chessy but yes, thats the only way.
You have to encourage her to encourage herself to get better!
Keep Massaging her, feed her protiens to make her bones stronger!
I hope for only the BEST!
Another idea is don't kill your self more than she is because it sounds like your suffering more that she is.....take it slow see what happens........if shes alright with it then don't beat your self up because of it.
All you can really do is encourage her!

Dogs can manage very well on 3 legs . you can try putting ice on and maybe ask the vet for anti-inflammatory, like steroids.

I rather doubt that anything can help her with walking on all fours. If she can be happy with three so should you.It could have been a lot worst. You could have lost her completely.
