OK, here's the deal. I have managed at 5 different dealerships and they have all been close to the same thing with minor tweaks at each place.

Typically a "mini" deal is paid $100-$150.
Commission is broke down to:
25% gross for up to 7 cars
30% gross for 8 to 11 cars (retro to 1st)
35% gross for 12+ cars (retro to 1st)

For instance, Salesperson sells a car for $20,000 and the invoice was $18,000. That would be a $2000 gross! He would then make the above percentage of that gross depending on how many cars he ended up with at the end of the month. If he ended with 7 he would have made $500, however, if he ended with 12 he would have made $700.
They are paid a "Mini" when their percentage of the gross on the vehicle sold is less than $100-$150.

There are also a lot of bonuses but that all depends on what the managers want to hand out that day.

I have personally seen up to a $12,000 gross on a deal and the salesperson made 35% on that = $4200.

there is no typical deal, everyone is different, I was a salesman and the deals ranged from minis (100) to over a grand on big hits. They were calculated on how much was grossed on each deal ,gross profit is the difference between cost and what the vehicle was sold for
