Can I just say - it's 'spayed' not spade - they don't do anything to it with a gardening tool, promise :-)

You can get collars to stop puppy getting at the stitches, and other than that it's lead walks only until the stitches are out. The stitches are pretty durable as long as she doesn't attack them directly. Tell the vet if the pup is particularly loopy, they'll have some advice for you too!

If you have a crate for it, keep it in the crate most of the time after the surgery. If you don't have a crate, keep it in a small room like a bathroom or a large closet.

If it doesn't have a lot of room to run around it will be less likely to tear its stitches. Also, keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't use its mouth to pull at or lick at the stitches. If it does that, the vet can give you a special collar to put on it so it can't get to the stitches.

The puppy will be very groggy after you get her home for the first few hours. They will do the op, and send her home (unless there are complications). Just don't act too hyper around the little one and keep the cone on (regardless of how silly she looks)! Otherwise she will lick the stitches and could get an infection.

It is best to keep them confined in a small space. Bathrooms are great cause they can be cleaned easily. Also The puppy will probably be tired from pain medication which will help keep her calm. If these two don't do the trick then consult your vet for some slight sedatives.
