I have had braces for six months, and the orthodontist just put on elastics. It slipped my mind to ask him how long I would have them on.
Is there a general time period that you have elastics on for?
[EX. two months, one month, five months, etc]

My orthodontist told me that I'd only have to wear them for a couple months to help correct the overbite. One year later, I'm still wearing them but thankfully my braces come off in two months. Make sure you wear your elastics at all times except of course when you're eating, brushing your teeth, etc. It really makes a difference.

Uhhm i got my elastics around that time too. Be happy you are getting them really, it means you are one step closer to getting your braces off. To be honest i am still wearing my braces (now only night time though). So i think once you get them, you have them till you get them off. (MARCH 30th in my case =)
But i think the purpose of these elastics are to like make your jaw adjust to the changes and make it stay that way. SO you'll only prolli have braces for like 6-8 more months !
