I read yet another question and resulting thread of answers, full of christians shrieking about the ONE BIG IMPORTANT SIN: homosexuality.
They ignore so much of the rest of their cult text; the many, many other rules and tenets which, if they followed them, their lives would be so inconvenient and practically unlivable, they'd all fall to pieces. They have practically institutionalized divorce, against the words of their jesus-myth, and of course, ignore the tenet requiring women to shut up in church, in 1COR 14:34-35, but they rationalize that, too.
But this one gets me. One guy wrote: "And finally...the Bible says of itself..."ALL Scripture is inspired by God"...so it is God breathed."
Amazing -- the brainwashing and indoctrination that goes on... When someone can read a book, the authors of which have never been authenticated and cannot be authenticated, you take it for wrote fact. WOW!!
Does hate control them? Is hate why their ignorance and hypocrisy is so deep?

Eh...Ones preferences of all types are ones personal matters. It is not a religions right to say if they are illegal. That should be decided only by the law. Therefore, those fundies are stupid. To each his own.

The reason why people are focusing on homosexuality right now is because it has become politicized and used by the right wing conservative agenda to make us forget about our failing economy and the ever increasing death, destruction, and chaos in Iraq. For some reason, many ignorant people have fallen into this scheme and don't even realize it.
Anyways, back to your questions:
"Does hate control them?"
No. Ignorance, lack of proper education, and often times the people around them influence their thoughts. The bible refers to people as sheep all the time. Hate has nothing to do with it.
"Is hate why their ignorance and hypocrisy is so deep?"
No, a lack of education is why their ignorance and hypocrisy is so deep. The lack of proper education has been plaguing this country for years. America has one of the worst school systems in the world. Lack of funding and the damage that No child left behind is doing to our school system is terrible. Can you believe that there are schools that have banned evolution?! Let's fix the education system before we point fingers about hate.

Okay let me explain to you why the Bible IS true. It was written hundreds of years ago as is proved by scientists who have found pieces of it. Even though it was written hundreds of years ago the things predicted will happen in them have happened or are happening rite now...of course you wont know that without reading it. Also you can be a Christian without fallowing all of the guidelines in the Bible...those are just ways to live your life...not ways to get to Heaven. Our churh however does fallow all the guidelines because we believe that they are equally important. As for the hate thing...it sounds to me like you're carrying more of that around than I am.

Sin is sin. There is no little or big GOD sees it all the same and he can't stand the sight of sin
Is homosexuality a sin? Yup sure is but it's no more of a sin than say adultry. You may not like how I beleive or what I believe but what give you the right to put down my faith because someone obviously offended your thoughts on homosexuality. Are you protraying the same hatred you accuse others of?

Homosexuality is in the natural order of things. Man is a natural species. God loves everyone, God loves sinners, Jesus loved sinners. Homosexuality is wrong on the moral side, but I will still love a homosexual, practicing or not. They are God's children as much as I am.
Everyone is God's child, they just have to realize that! All have a divine spirit, if their lives are lived in Love!

It's all the worst aspects of human nature seizing on "scripture" as an opportunity for expression.
Of course it makes no sense that we "defend marriage" by persecuting gay people, rather than by criminalizing divorce. But when it comes to religion, it simply doesn't matter if anything actually makes sense or not. "Faith" is the excuse for not thinking.

Belief in god = Irrational belief
Belief in having contact with god = Delusions
And it spirals, until their self-delusion rips them up inside and they hate on any target they're told too.

There isn't one big important sin, all sin is bad and equal. Telling a white lie is just as bad as murder because both is sin. Human's tend to measure sin when it shouldn't be measured, it is all bad.

hate? pretty strong accusation my friend.
i believe many people are driven by not only FEAR, but also an innate need to have the answers to lifes mysteries. everyone is on a life path, and believe it or not, the same people who believe very strongly about something today, may very well change their views over time. let them do that. we all need to respect one anothers walk.
:)
