I agree, food coloring. But not all cheese is orange, some is a white color (no dye), or blue (mold).

Most orange cheeses have been made with food coloring. There are artisan cheeses with orange rind which comes from natural sources from bacteria to plant matter. Some cheeses are brownish or have colored rinds from being soaked in "washes' and then dried. Some cheeses are even blackened with ash.

There are thousands of cheeses in the world. Over 365 in France alone. Find a good cheese shop and try some of the ones not dyed orange!

You usually only see orange cheese here in the U.S. Originally, they put in grated carrots or carrot juice to get the orange color, which also added beta carotene to the cheese. Now they usually just use food coloring, because we Americans are use to it.

It's a chemical or food coloring that is added to the cheese when it was processed at the factory.

rennet is what they add to cheese to make it orange.
