You may need more than 400$ for "ridiculous" bass.

Audiobahn Immortals are the way to go if you want glass-shattering bass. However, I'm not saying they will sound good while doing it. They sound like **** with normal music playing, but provide heart-stopping bass. They are strictly an SPL sub. You can get a pair of these bad boys from OnlineCarStereo.com for about $250 a piece. If you want very hard hitting, affordable, SQ subs, then I would say a Polk enclosure from Circuit City is the way to go. I know from personal experiece that they will out pound Kicker Comps and L5s. I dont know about L7s but they are about $400 A PIECE. Finally, Oz Audio will give earth-trembling bass also. They are the only speaker to ever get a perfect score at the ISCSA. The Matrix Elite Series are affordable and one of THE BEST SQ subs made. The Power Series will give ungodly amounts of bass, but will scare you on the price, and if you install these make sure you have a welder because these subs will literally tear your car apart. As for amps, go with Hifonics, great quality, competitve prices.

Ridiculous loud bass is cool until you get tickets or you want to listen to normal music. Look for quality stuff that won't burn up. You could probably get a decent set of mtx stuff for 400. I have a rockford amp and i love it with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. It is paired to 2 sony xplod's. I don't car about the people hating on sony, these puppies bang, and i got the whole thing, box, subs, amp, wires, and a cap for 150. I would say go with rockford but that is a very biased opinion.

for heavy, clean bass, a JL W7 series sub would be appropriate. a single 12W7 will shake your soul. I have mine paired up with a phoenix gold xenon 1200.1 amp. Its very powerful, yet still cleaner than pretty much anything else on the market.
For trashy, loud bass, you can look at pretty much anything out there.

I STRONGLY recommend Crossfire. Especially BMF 12" with a ported box and make sure to get an amp that would push them nice.
Those are THE best I've heard. This will give far more than ridiculous.
