i had surgery on my wrist on feb 9th to put a metal plate in to fix my wrist. I was in a splint for 10 days, and i have been in a cast ever since. I hope to get it off tomorrow, if the x rays look good. If I can get the cast off tomorrow, how long do you think it will take until I will be able to lift and just have normal function? i know it depends but will it be 3 months or like 6? i just want an estimate.

You should ask your surgeon. Generally they will probably put you in a removable brace for about a month. You will probably have to go through physical therepy. You may have to go once and they will teach you what to do, or you may have to go a couple of times. I would say a month until you can go back to "basic function" but it takes 6 months to a year to get full mobilty and strength. It all depends on your healing process though. Hope it all goes well.

I broke my wrist as a kid. When I got the cast off I started little league and the Doctor made me bunt left handed. After a month I was batting 1000 when he let me play normal.

Sounds like you had a worse problem but I would think 6 weeks would be plenty of time.

your wrist will be very weak for a couple of days after removal of the cast, that is very normal because you haven't used the muscles in your wrist so the muscles will be almost useless. this is called muscle atrophy. more than likely if your a good healer you will be 90% within 1 mo. also remember that your bone heals twice as hard before it was broke, it's the body's way of not letting it happen again.

Ask your surgeon.

The information you have provided is insufficient to give a useful answer.
