Your ? got me curious, and I found a list at racehippie.com. It shows 32 deaths total with DE Sr. being the most recent (God rest his soul). Some of the deaths are from airplane accidents like Allison and Kulwicki and some are from Busch and Nascar truck events. What is the saddest part about reading the list is seeing some of the deaths from practice sessions, tire tests, and qualifying, though everything is sad about fatalities within the sport.

With the new style of cars and Nascar really focusing on the safety for the drivers, with better roll cages, the HANS device, better tires, etc., I believe and hope that we will see the fatality rate drop dramatically. Thank you Nascar and RIP to all the greats that have lost their lives within the sport.

Very open ended question. On track? Regular Race? Practice? Helicopter crash at the track? What were you looking for? Technically, I could answer your second question by saying Benny Parsons of lung cancer was the most recent because you didn't specify what types of deaths you are looking for. For that matter a lot of drivers from natural causes in the history of NASCAR.

Yeah there are quite a few, i looked up both Busch and Nextel series and when i did i was suprised at how many had died. Dale Earnhardt Sr is the latest, with all the safe equipment we have in NASCAR nowdays i dout there will be any deaths in the future. It would have to be a lot of little problems gone wrong and a perfect head on wreck for another one to die nowdays.

Adam Petty was the most recent on the track. He did die in a practice session about a month or so after Dale sr. It was really hard on the racing community to see such a great talent be gone. Ricky Hendrick was also a racer at one time and passed away in a plane crash on his way to Martinsville with some people from Hendrick on the plane.
