A lot depends on your puppy. Is it male or female? What is it like? What does it like to do? (Other than sleep, eat, and eliminate?) And a lot depends on what you like. Do you want a cute name, or something studly, or sturdy? Would you like a “normal” dog name? Or something more uncommon?

You could name your puppy for his/her color, i.e. Coal, Shadow, Smokey, Midnight. . .or almost for his/her color, Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Cole Porter, Shadoe Stevens, Smokey Robinson, Captain Midnight.

Is your puppy adventurous? Rikki, from “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” might be appropriate. Or Pippi, like Pippi Longstocking.

Do you have a happy puppy? Happy might be a good name, or Joy or Merry. How about Gil, as in Happy Gilmore?

How about a mischief-maker? Loki would be an out-of-the-ordinary name. Puck would work, as well.

Is your puppy a male or female? I named my black lab Morticia after Morticia Addams of the Addams Family but I just call her Tisha.

I am on my 3rd and probably last female black lab . (started getting them in 1978.......my 2nd one was 15 yrs old when we put her down because she was just so arthritic).....so anyway here are the names we have used
Char, Shady, Solo
I think Char was my favourite name. They say dogs respond best to one syllable names........who knows?
