Does anyone know if I can get a new passport online? or do I have to do it through the post office?

You must apply "in person" for a passport because they will take a picture of you and must see your valid ID. You can go to the U.S.PostOffice, the town hall, a county office building or many other places to get one. Use the following link to see more about it:

I have never heard of anyone being able to get a passport on line. You have to go the passport office like always.

Neither. You don't have to use the Postal Service. You can fill-in the form online and then print it. But you will need an official copy of your birth certificate and two photos that meet specific requirements. Then you send al of that to the government along with some money. The Posatl Service can do much of this for you, as can one of several services that exist just for this purpose.

You can get one on line IF you have had one before, if it is a new passport you have to go into an office that prepares them for you.

Since you have to show your I.D. and your birth certificate, I'd say you'll have to go through the post office or your local court house...

I don't think you can get one on-line. The post office or library or even some mail stop shops have them.
