Disdain for moral authority and simple rebellion, most likely.
It's just a phase. They'll grow out of it.
Onward Christian soldiers!

Before answering this question I read the many answers already given.
Two things struck me, one was the shear volume of responses and two, the attitude of the responses.
Clearly this subject is a hot topic however I did not read any 'nasty' replies but mainly sincere ones.
My distinct impression is that it is the naive notion of 'true' Christians that other people 'need' to be converted that causes the bad feelings.
It is human nature to defend your beliefs and in the case of
non-believers there is no 'bible equivalent' for a convenient reference.
We have little power over what we believe or do not believe (but in time this can change).
What would be the reaction of Christians if the bible was proved to be a hoax and that all their beliefs were based on pure fiction? Don't think that it could not happen folks.
Generations of scientists may 'believe' in a physical phenomena until some smart *** comes along and shatters the theory.
I am pleased for you Christians that smugly 'know' that you will go to your heaven and meet your God but what if you end up meeting someone elses God and find that you have been backing the wrong horse!
Moderation in everything I say, including 'absolute' belief...

We don't have to work hard at all to discredit the bible and christianity..
We are not trying to do the converting here, the christians are. The christians are the ones who belittle everyone else who disagrees with them, and keep pushing their views on us. The christians are the ones who feel they are superior..

Well... yeah. There are a few reasons why I do it:
1) I LOVE debating. Two opposing points of view meet on a mental battlefield. It's as close to UFC as an intellectual gets. Great fun. I'd rather see someone's point of view made to look ridculous than see someone bleeding.
2) I grew up in a pentecostal church, the son of a pastor, and came to the conclusion ON MY OWN that Christianity wasn't the answer to life's questions.
3) I get tired of some people running rampant spilling their venomous religion about, and not having it checked by people who have opposing views. It almost seems as if no one dares to dispute anything a Christian says, because it's kind of pointless. They won't listen to logic, they only get upset. Conversations that start with debate end with a Christian trying to guilt trip a non-Christian. So... being the passive-aggressive person that I am, I feel the need to dispute. Just for the sake of having SOMEONE do so.
WellTraveled... Once again, we see eye to eye. I am a major advocate of free thinking. And Christianity just doesn't go along with it. Besides which, when people quit blaming religion and begin blaming themselves, everyone will be better off.

I doubt anyone has to work hard to discredit the bible.
As for the rest of your statement, it could just as easily be applied to the christians. Do they think they will convert anyone with all of their "truth? remarks? Are they trying to feel superior with all of the hell comments? Are they just trying to pick a fight? Maybe they are the ones belittling what they can't understand (non belief in their god) when everything in their lives is explained to them by an ancient book.

I think if they belittle Christians it makes there battle for superiority seem more logical. Just keep in mind what the Bible says you only have to wittiness to them about Jesus, you are not required to get into there petty arguments that they like to draw you into. Don't go there and they will soon get tired of not having anyone to fight with.

Actually people are leaving christianity in droves. I am a former christian. When I started asking the tough questions in church and got answers that did not make sense and then was told that I just didn't have enough faith, I decided to really study for myself. It was then that I came to the realization that the bible is not all that it is cracked up to be (to put it lightly).
That's when I left. It was the actual study of the bible that sealed the deal for me.
Peace

I think you are confusing between:
A) Trying to discredit the source, and
B) Trying to discredit the people who expect everyone else to take the source as literal gospel.
Speaking for myself, I have posted information taken from the Bible (thanks, crosswalk.com!) and have discussed theology with Christians who are willing to have rational, intelligent discussions and conduct themselves in a respectful manner.
It is people who post 'Jesus will win, repent sinner!' messages who get lambasted, and with good reason. Even IF they are right, and even IF repenting is going to do the trick, they are not contributing to the positive dialogue.
Furthermore, it's pretty naive to assume that just because someone doesn't believe in Christianity, they don't understand it. Just because I have my own brand of faith and beliefs does not mean I am incapable of understanding yours, or of having dialogue with you or anyone else.

I believe it is because of the mindless answers many people give or the over spiritualized answers some people enjoy giving in hopes to "convert" those who are flaming Christians. I think some people over react and make the whole crowd look bad. Some people just need to cut out the over spiritualization because its doing more harm then good.

Because it is of such obvious benefit to civilization to get people to think rationally, rather than to rely on superstitious nonsense. (Remember 9/11?) And, it does occasionally work; I received a very nice letter from a person who noted my criticism of the bible: it turned his life around. (For privacy reasons, I will not share details.) It is not a matter of not understanding Christianity -- it is a matter of understanding it all too well. The bible has hundreds of errors, so it is not a suitable reference for anything.

I'm also a christian, and all i've come to think of it is that they just want to put christians down. There are so many satanic things and 'religions' out there, that No one knows the real truth. They don't get the satisfaction that only Jesus can fufil, so they have to find other ways to temporarily satisfy it. So, they discredit the bible. Also, it might be from ONE bad experience, so now they hate God. People are weird like that.
