You need a small table with tablecloth, wine and candlelight. Some soft music to set the mood .... errr..
A nesting box when they are in mating season will help promote them mating and raising a clutch of eggs. The male will normally check the box out and display it to the hen he likes. She will then inspect it and may try to make changes, by chewing on the entrance hole , or by carrying twigs or old feathers into the box.
You will probably see him feed her and they preen each other .
Good luck, and just leave them to do it themselves , they dont really need any help. :)

Build a parakeet bar. Play some loud parakeet music. Then slow the music down after the parakeets are a little buzzed.
Your female parakeet will begin to doubt her attractiveness in a sly effort to engage the male parakeet's attention. The male parakeet will begin to compliment her and rub her back feathers with his wing while telling her she's pretty and he's never seen such grey and yellow feathers on another female ever before. The female parakeet will gaze longingly into the males parakeet's eyes and one small tear will begin to form. The male parakeet will wipe it away with his wing tip, and they will begin to peck each others beaks.
Eventually, this behavior will lead to what we all consider to be the most natural of all parakeet behavior. Pretty soon, there will be zounds of little parakeets flopping about. Ahh yes, another happy parakeet family, and yet another touching narrative that hopefully made someone smile.

If you really want to breed, wait at least 1 1/2 years. Birds coming from petco and other pet stores are BABIES. They will need to mature, be put on a good BREEDING diet, not seeds that is birdie junk food. I reccomend, if you really want to breed, to get your birds from a breeder that way you can garentuee that they are not related and of good stock.
YOU will need to do LOTS of work and research.
If your birds abandon the chicks or refuse to feed, you will have to step in and feed the chicks. This is AROUND THE CLOCK. They would then need to be in a brooder so they could digest their food properly, otherwise they will die. If they are handfed incorrectly, they can die a very slow, painful death from crop burn, slow crop, pneumonia, or infection.
I'll go into a short list of things that you as a responsible person will need to do before allowing your birds to breed.
First, do not put the nest box in the cage until you do your research.
Go to the book store and purchase a book on how to raise and breed budgies.
Go to the vet and learn how to properly handfeed, just in case they toss or abandon the chicks. They can also help you out if your hen becomes eggbound. This can be and is usually fatal if not treated immediently.
NEVER put string in the nest box!!! That will wrap around the chicks legs and amputate toes or legs!!!! Only use pine bedding or something similar, NO CEDAR.
Find buyers for any and all chicks that hatch, before you let them breed. There are LOTS of birds out there due to overbreeding that are in need of homes, most are cockatiels and budgies (parakeets) due to the ease of breeding these birds.
Why do you want to breed? Is it to better the species, or because you think they need to?
Do you know the background of both birds?
Did their parents have any problems?
Are your birds on a good breeding diet?
Do they have enough calcium to prevent eggbinding?
Do they have fresh foods offered daily?
If you cannot answer all of those questions, then I would not breed.
If they are not on a good breeding diet, pellets, fresh foods, and very little seed, you may loose one of your birds during the breeding, or have chicks that are sickly.
Here is another good resource for breeding birds.

Well you were right you need a nest box and also when and if the chicks hatch you will need pine shavings so the chicks can grab on to something rough and wont be splay legged. You need to make sure the female is in breeding conditon(brown ,crusty cere(fleshy part above the beak)) or else she will not breed , it is better to have mor than one pair of budgie as they stimulate each other into breeding condlitoin. They also have to be bonded(regurgitating to each other, preeining each other.etc)that is all i think.

I tried to mate my birds before but it didn't work. I followed everything the vet said to. He said to get them a mating box, Some vitamin supplements they need, and a special type of thread they use to make a nest. You can buy all of this in a pets store, but i suggest you ask somebody in the store for help.

Your birds are telling you they want pals. in the event that they have been to certainly mate and create yet another fowl, it might extremely be a hybrid mule. it could be ideal to seperate those birds or get them pals. Your chicken is going to place eggs and could want calcium. be certain to offer cuttlebone on your birds.
