He is an australian sheppard who is 3 1/2 months old, and his gums are visibly red and irratated. Can I give him asprin or maybe oragel? Or natural remedies? Please help! Thanks!

I know, he has tons of toys, and some he likes better than others, but he is obviously miserable, and my Dad was a vet, and my mom thinks he used to give asprin to dogs, so I was just wondering. A friend recommended freezing rawhide bones, and he loves those!

Call your local vet and ask them what's best for your puppy. They know what is best for him.

Before you give him any medicine or remedies, check with your vet. You need to make sure the medicine is safe for your pet. I have a female Australian Sheppard who is teething as well, as long with her 'brother' a male pit bull. And I went through a chow teething, but hes grown now. The only one I didn't go through teething of my four dogs is Prince, my Labrador mix (he was adopted a little bit older then the other 3 were adopted)
I never gave any of my pets medicine, but rather soft chew toys (be careful with stuffed animals, you may end up with fluff everywhere) and dog toys, squeeky/rubber kinds make the best. Once in a while, dog bones also help, but don't get the flavor covered kind, as it can harm some dogs. (Thank you yahoo news lol.. a bit older news) Rubber or soft plastic or squeeky toys tend to be the best, but if this doesn't appeal to your dog, the bone or plushies may be a nice alternative.
If none of the above seem to do the job, you should ask your vet for any pain relievers for his teeth.
Oh an be careful around furniture and shoes if hes an inside dog ^_^
Good luck! I hope this helped!

His teeth probably don't really hurt too much but you can buy him some bones and you can even get some that you can put in the fridge that he can chew on when they are cold they may help his gums feel better. By the way this is off the subject take lots of pictures my puppy grew up so fast and I hardly have any baby pics of him and he was soooo cute, I love puppies!

Hmm...not so sure about aspirin. I would give your local vet a quick call - they'll tell you over the phone for free. If you vet is closed today already, you can buy your dog some soft rubber toys (such as bones with ripples, bumps, etc.), as they can be very soothing to your dogs teeth. Hope he feels better soon!

When my Labrador Retriever was teething we would put a wet wash cloth in the freezer until it was frozen and then we would give it to him. He would chew on it until it would thaw out. He seemed to like it. Now they have these bones that you can run under water and freeze. We bought them and used them with our Cocker Spaniel but they are kind of expensive and they did the same thing as the wash cloth. There is one other thing that we did. You can buy a brush that fits over your finger. It is used to brush their teeth. Both of our dogs like it when we would massage their gums with it. You just have to be gentle. Good luck.

its like when a babies teething, give him something cold to chew. I would not give him asprin or oragel, but they sell items like that specifically for dogs at the pet store.

Don't give him an Aspirin, it may upset his stomach. You can try Orajel its safe for a baby so why not a dog. Also give him a Tylenol Capsule about every 4-6 hours for the pain. Put ice in his drinking water, it will soothe the gums. Hope this helps.

Lots of chew toys. You can freeze them, but some pups won't chew if it's too cold. My puppy has a "Kong" chew toy (available at petco or petsmart), I put peanut butter in it to encourage him chewing on it and now it's his 2nd favorite toy. We are finally over the teething part of our world now, entering the teens mentality time.

Just give him plenty of chew toys. Try putting a wet rag in the freezer and give it too him. The cold will help numb his gums as he chews.

If you don't have a frozen chew toy yet, freeze a wet wash cloth. When you give it to him frozen monitor him. After the cloth has thawed take it away, so he cant eat it.
