I'm currently running about 10 miles a week (along with Xtraining) and really want to bump that up enough to do a half-marathon (in 6 months!). I know the best thing to do is join a training program, but I'm also looking at books. Can anyone reccommend which of these 3 would be the best? Or even recommend a good one for a runner who is not quite a beginner, but not intermediate either?

"Half-Marathon, You Can Do It" author is Jeff Galloway.

He includes several 1/2 Marathon training programs in this book varying from the absolute beginner to experienced runner. There's even a run-walk program where he's pre calculated run-walk times depending on your particular mph pace.

The book covers one's goals, health info, shoes, clothing, important training components, cross training and motivation.

Another perk is that this book is in full color and the different training programs are in an easy to understand table format.

Im not an amazing runner..ill start with that..but i do know a lot about the sport. I think that what will really help is if you read runners world magazine. My mom has run a marathon and she got a really good program from that. They also have a lot of good tips on running in there. Good luck and i hope everything turns out ok!

Hello,

It sounds like you're doing well with your running...keep it up! The 1st link below has a 1/2 marathon training plan, if interested.

As for books, I like anything by Jeff Galloway. His best one (in my opinion) is the Book of Running. It's written in a very easy-to-understand and down-to-earth style. See the 2nd link for a list of his books. Hope that helps. Good luck with the 1/2 marathon!

I have a Bob Glover book that I am currently using, and I have found it really informative. I think its called 'The competitors guide to distance running'.

I've never read any of those, but I've seen a movie about Steve Prefontaine and read a book on him, and just reading about him made me want to start working my butt off, though realisticly, there's no way to motivate me to run.
