My friend's dog chewed on a real rat...and it seems like she chewed off the ear because my friend checked the garbage and the ear seemed to be missing. Does my friend need to clean the dig's mouth? or anything?

The rat was already dead, by the way.

If it was a wild rat and not a pet rat, make sure your dog is up to date on all its shots including rabis.

Unless the rat was killed with poison probably not. If the rat was poisoned, the dog should be checked out to the vet to make sure its blood clotting abilities haven't been affected.

I would actually consider taking the dog to a vet to get it checked out, especially if she starts acting any differently. Rats can carry diseases that can be fatal.

We live in New Mexico, where there are loads of mice and rats. My dogs do catch the critters, but I don't think they eat them. Usually they leave them for me to stumble over.
I'd just watch the dog for any signs of sickness, and try to discourage this behavior.
Good luck

Well I would be really worried about what killed the rat. If it was killed by poison the dog could TOTALLY get poisoned by the rat. And the dog could actually die very fast from it. And it's not a pleasant death.

Don't worry about a think, as long as the dog's shots are all up to date. My dogs eat all kind of stuff, like cats, skunks, armadillos, rats, mice, etc, without getting sick.

If the dog is vaccinated it should be fine, but if it starts vomiting and looks sick the dog should go to the vet.
