Buddhism is originated from India as the Lord Buddha was born there. He is the pioneer of Buddhism. Buddhism it is not a religion. Mostly, it is a philosophy. The meditation methods in Buddihsm are quite powerful which sometimes make your self invicibe to others. There are many interesting facts about Buddhism. I am also from Sri Lanka where Buddhism is the main religion. If you like to know more about it pls mail me.

I took a world religions class in college that I thought was really cool and informative, so if you have that option, I would recommend it. Otherwise, I would suggest going to a temple in your town and see for yourself what it is like. When you are there you can also talk to some people there about their opinions on the faith, etc. Or, you could always check out some webpages...

try buddhanet.net which gives some nice info, along with many links... lotsa good books out there too in major bookstores and the Buddhist online bookstore variety.
Snowlionpub.com
Wisdompubs.org and many others I can't recall all offhand
Also for Mahayana Buddhism, fpmt.org is another good site. Does this give you a decent launch? Best wishes.
