Run it under hot water for a while.

Try tapping the top of the lid with a butter knife or the back of a spoon, you should be able to unscrew it then. If not, gently tap the sides of the lid of the lid on a counter or other hard surface. Be very careful not to tap it so hard that the jar breaks and also be careful of the lid coming off~spilling olives & juice everywhere. Hope this helps~enjoy a few olives for me!

If you have one of those old can openers that had the triangle point on one end and the lifter on the other, grab it and use the lifter end to pull the lid away from the jar just a little. It should release the pressure. You may have to move around the lid a time or two, but the key is to release pressure.

Really easy but please be careful and don't do it if you are on your own. Pierce the lid with either a very sharp knife or a carving fork - this releases the vacuum and you will be suprised at how easy this is now to release the top. I would suggest that you then stamp the indentation from the underside to flatten it back into shape and place a layer of either greaseproof paper or cling film over the olives after you have enjoyed your quota. Yummyyyyyyyyyyyyy !

If you don't have one of those huge 99 size clamp things you should have. Otherwise get your hot tap going really hot & run it on the lid of the jar. Heat expands stuff & metal expands more than glass. So the lid will loosen & you can have your olive!

Take the end of a kitchen knife and tap around the lid a few times. That should loosen it enough so you will be able to open the jar.

several choices..........
1 - hammer
2 - use a wet T-towel wrapped around the lid
3 - ask a nieghbour
4 - if you have a door that opens far enough (depends on size of lid), jam the lid between the door and the door frame near the hinges, pull door closed until it grips the lid - hold - twist jar. be careful not to spill contents

OB to the rescue!

Ok little lady there is a solution here that I myself have needed once or twice in my time.

You need a knife, a chefs knife preferably. Use the back edge (not the sharp edge) and wack it in the direction the jar opens. Use medium force.

After about 8 wacks it should spin right off or be loose enough for you to open.

Enjoy them olives.

Turn jar upside down and bang lid of the bunker. That should break the seal sufficiently to release.

Tap gently round the side edge of the lid with the handle of a knife, that should help break the seal, works for me.

Put an elastic band around the lid for a better grip.
