I am assuming NYC --if upstate go to Niagra Falls
I went there 2 months after September 11th and saw the macy's day parade....great thing. But see the following:
Harbor cruise/Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island
Broadway show (i saw the Lion King and the New Amsterdam theater)
Go a top the Empire State Building (night time is cool)
the UN (not a must do)
Central park --nice during fall as well
Time Square
Walk 5th Ave. to do window shopping
try local restraunts and go into china town for one of their restraunts

New York is so much fun- just have fun walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. Tourist sites are important too- Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, etc. I've never been to the Statue of Liberty, but I am visiting it in November, along with the Christmas Spectacular (The Rocketts, although since you're going in April that of course won't be there) and a Broadway show. Remember just to have fun. New York is a great city!

The Empire State Building
Ellis Island
The Statue of Liberty
Times Square (see a play...color purple is great)
Canal Street (have some money...great place for knock-off designer bags)
Virgils BBQ (44th and Broadway) Great food!
Metro. Museum of Modern Art
American Museum of Natural History (where Night At The Museum was based around)
Whatever you do, have a wonderful time!!

Where there's the usual, Statue of Liberty, Empire State... but definitely go Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Building), amazing view and get downtown and take a walk along the Brooklyn Bridge. It's beautiful! One of those dinner cruises around Manhattan are much fun too and give you a great view of the city!

Statue of that Lady looks like fun. You go in her foot and can look out her eyes and maybe ears. I have never been to New York.
That lady was green. I think she still is.
Empire State Building has a radio station in it.
The Harbour Ferry looks fun also.
The Niagra Falls looks real neat.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has some nice paintings and stuff.
Have Fun! Eat a hot dog. They make them for any diet.
