They have money...so it's really the "thought that counts" here...What about something with her monogram...note paper with her monogram or even with just her first initial embossed pretty on it. Something simple and elegant, if you don't know her taste.
A few nice handmade candles in a pretty basket?
Dried potpourri and a pretty artsy glass bowl?
What about a 50$ gift certificate to a good restaurant in her town? May not cover the whole bill...but it would be a great start, and a reason to go out.
Bath and Body works can make up a basket of candles, scented hand lotion, or something not-so-personal.

My Mom is turning 70 and we planned a get away trip with her and all her kids and their family. She is tickled pink and doesn't want anything more than that. Time with all the family is what she wanted most. Now she is so excited, she is making plans of what we all can do together there in NM when we go. We picked and paid for the place for 4 days. So I agree... family closeness is the best thing ever.

A gift certificate for a pedicure/ manicure. Usually at that age they can have a hard time looking after their feet. If she is diabetic, look to see if there is a VON that does house calls and come in and take care of her feet if she is homebound. Have fun at the party!

Maybe she would like something handmade? If they have a lot of money, maybe storebought stuff is the last thing she wants. I bet she would just love a handmade birthday card. Maybe a little chocolate or flowers to go with it.

How about a sweater or a warm, fuzzy bathrobe? I get those things all the time because the blood doesn't flow like it used to and I stay cold a lot.

The best gift would be a memory album/heritage album. Not a photo album. You can find these at all types of stores.

People at that age tend to lack one important thing...their family spending time with them. U and your fiance should make plans with her to do something that is age appropriate that she would enjoy doing...key words here are WHAT SHE WOULD ENJOY DOING. Spending time with elderly loved ones is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. Just ask my mom's neighbor. He gets cards and gifts...but what he really wants is his kids' POSITIVE attention.
