I have good luck with my Olympus. 5mp 3x zoom, it's a few years old, but does just fine for vacation and family photos.

I would go with the Sony..
Why don't you go to www.pbase.com
and do a search on the camera you want..
you will see what the photos look like that
members of pbase has posted.
I like Canons the A550 4x optical zoom and 7 megapixels
can be bought for under $200 plus they use the popular
AA batteries.

i prefer sony
but i think you can search the photo example by visiting some webs or do some comparison by your self...
