Does Calzaghe want to be considered a great fighter? If he does he must do these things. Fight better competition. Who has he fought besides an overrated, one dimensional Jeff Lacy? He must fight in the States, where the worldwide media exposure is at, the bigger purses and deeper competition. Why won't he fight a Kessler or Mundine or even a Miranda? Why would he give his IBF title up to fight a soft touch like Manfredo? Does he need to cut his ties with Frank Warren as Hatton did. Ricky is fighting in the States since the split, and fighting the better competition the U.S. has to offer and making more money. Why isn't Calzaghe interested in doing the same?

Frank thanks for the insight. You definitely got the inside scoop, living there.

bkbig......- A fight with Kessler wouldn't be for big $$$$$$? It would also work towards unifying the super middleweight title.

Your exactly right as usual and i think i have made my feelings clear on this already, its all about making Warren money, Warren doesn't care whether Joe is remembered as a legend or not he is just bothered about how many Bentley's he has got parked up on his drive. Calzaghe needs to make the break like Hatton did, maybe even go over to Hobson himself, if he don't i fear his career will just slowly fizzle out, if he continues to fight people on the fringe of the rankings and not the top fighters you are not going to get the respect of the fight fans, just as for instance i don't respect Valuev for the same reason.
The thing is i am being a bit of a hypocrite because i already have my ticket for the fight (but that is mainly down to the fact that my mates son is fighting), so i am one of the people lining Warrens pocket with money and while he has plenty of mugs like me over here in Britain willing to pay him to watch his fighters he is just going to continue up the same path.
I just hope Joe has got the sense after this one to make that break, he must be able to see that it hasn't done Ricky Hatton any harm so far.

If he really wants to be taken seriously as a great fighter, he's gonna have to leave Warren and his comfort zone in Wales and start fighting the best out there. And it's a shame for him because there are a number of big fights out there for him. Fighters like Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Roy Jones, and Jermain Taylor have all expressed an interest in fighting him at one time or another, and a Kessler fight would be big as well, so the fights are out there for him. Maybe he just wants to live off the win over Lacy and continue to pad his record with mediocre fighters, i don't know, but whatever the case is, staying with Warren is definitely hurting him and he needs to make the break now while he's still a good, undefeated champion and the other good fighters still want to face him What if he is upset by Manfredo? His stock would surely go down and the big potential paydays in the States may go out the window as well. I like Calzaghe and i think he is a very good fighter, but he needs to step up the competition so he'll get the respect that an undefeated champion deserves. Not to say that he isn't respected already, but he'll be much more so if he can beat a Hopkins, Wright, or Taylor.

Brent ~

Frank and Bluedevil are accurate in their answers. The really sad thing about this is the English fans are getting the short end of the stick here. Every year there's a new British hype and Frank Warren is the Don King of England so he knows how to sell a product. Frank has everything going for the fighter he is promoting except the fighters best interest. He has the perfect opponents, he has the perfect referee in Micky Vans, he has the perfect reporters to write about his fighters but he doesn't have a perfect plan for when his fighters step onto the Worlds stage and actually have to fight a legitimate fighter.

Joe is just one fighter in a long list who believes everything Frank tells him, Lennox, Naz, Amir and once Ricky did the same. Joe's career is towards the end and maybe he wont wake up in time like Ricky Hatton did and this is too bad for Joe because I really think that he could have been world class.

Who knows MAYBE Joe knows in the back of his head given his last two performances against somewhat better competition, he won but really didn't fare so well. MAYBE, just MAYBE he's starting not to believe Franks Hype. There is no greater honor than a warrior going out on his sheild, maybe Joe will break away from Frank cross the pond and challenge the best.

The next on the list for Frank is Hamed wannabe Amir Khan. Franks putting a lot of money behing this young staillion, hopefully he talks to Ricky and MAYBE Joe before it's too late.

Thanks for the question Brother.

Calzaghe could have cemented his legacy easily after his throttling of Lacy. All he does is make excuse after dumb excuse, making ridiculous statements, telling us why Jermaine Taylor and Bernard Hopkins aren't worthy enough opponents[?], and then fighting Peter Manfredo Jr. This guy talks left and walks right. Bizarre. He could have easily moved up to light-heavy after the Lacey fight and cemented his legacy by winning one or two belts at this more respected and storied weight class. Instead, he's fiddling around while he approaches his late 30's when he'll soon be too old to beat top guys anymore. What a sad and sorry waste of time and talent.

Hey Brent! Frank is correct on this question as he needs to make a break from Warren and fight in the States like Hatton did and take on better fighters like the ones you mentioned in your question. And yes the exposure here in the States is far better and would definetly enhance his career and reputation if he ever truly wants to be considered as a great fighter.

cj_caparas and James...

You don't know what the FFF you're talking about!!!

James first says he's fighting someone with a name from contender to get him better status??!! Then why NOT Hopkins? RJJ? Kessler? James Toney (when he was there)? Instead he talks so much BS and prices himself out of those fights like a coward. I would rate him a pure coward, but he didn't pull out of any fights like the way Sergio Mora just did....what a disgrace!

CJ_Caparas! What the FFF are you smokin?? All he wants is big payday fights!?!? Is Hopkins, RJJ, Kessler, James Toney not big payday fights???!!!! Those were opportunities he had and squandered. I think he's waiting for Hopkins to reach 47 and RJJ to get knocked out another time before taking any of those fights. You really don't know anything do you?

To be the best, you gotta fight and beat the best....or at least try.

Sugar Ray fought Benitez, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Norris, etc...
Hearns fought Sugar Ray, Duran, Hagler, Kinchen, Hill, Barkley, Benitez, etc...

You get it?

Calzaghe "The Chicken" fought: an overrated Lacy....that's it!

Open your eyes and look at reality!

At this point in his career he almost has no choice but to ONLY take the BIG $$$$ fights... He is very UNDERRATED and along with the large purse he gets the international "AIRTIME" to display his boxing talent !!! I think Hopkins -vs- Calzaghe would be GREAT !! For boxing !! AND his career !! I'm not really sure it's Warren fault here ... But i do think that if it were YOU !! you'll probably fight the fight that gets YOU THE MOST MONEY TOO!!!!!

Brent,

Right on point. Calzaghe's fight collection has simply been one meaningless fight after another.

Talks so much talk about making a big fight with Hopkins, RJJ, so on and so forth....BUT won't ever leave Wales and prices himself out of the fight.

Pure waste of talent.

hey Mr X. a million. you should recognize that Yahoo solutions is frequented by ability of many American boxing followers who won't be able to familiarize your self with the actual undeniable actuality that there is a international classification British fighter obtainable. i'm no longer questioning their boxing information, basically advising that there is a lot of uk-bashing that is going on right here, specifically geared in the route of the likes of any British fighter who has basically crept onto their truly slender radars. 2. As on your question, i'd say Baz is spot on. 3. there is not any favor to wrestle in the united states because the united states has no individual to grant Joe. to assert "that's the position the money is" is precisely correct, yet that still does no longer recommend that's the position he should be scuffling with. who's there to wrestle? Roy Jones has those days suggested he'd be available to wrestle Joe in July - if Joe received, human beings may say Roy replaced into previous it, if Joe lost that that they had say Joe lost to an over-the-hill fighter. a similar common sense can be utilized if Joe ever fought Hopkins. Jermain Taylors camp has requested $10m to wrestle Joe (up from Warren's provided $4m). If Joe beats him, human beings will be retaining how Taylor's a middleweight and if Taylor wins, they are going to say how Joe replaced into beaten by ability of a blown up middleweight. 4. Joe is likewise oftentimes slated for the WBO belt he has, as to many that's 'no longer a recognized belt'. As someone once suggested, that's no longer the belt that defines the champion in spite of the undeniable fact that the champion that defines the belt. Joe has held the identify for exceedingly a lot 10 years. ok, I agree that in that aspect it may were tremendous to work out more beneficial titles unified (except the IBF identify he gave up), yet I daresay thathas a lot to do with politics. in short Mr X, the guy easily won't be able to win, that's a crying shame because the united states isn't the capital of boxing it once replaced into. one issue I received't dispute inspite of the actuality that, is that Joe ought to a minimum of be scuffling with the accurate adult men at 168. In Europe and the united kingdom, he will bypass down as a magnificent and enable's basically desire Joe's very last handful of fights are occupation-defining adequate to eliminate the blindfolds of a lot of human beings. Cheers.
