because the stuff that is in the veterinary variety has so much more in it and is much better. The glucosamine for dogs will also have magnese, green lipped mussell and chondritin in it, rather than the cheap form which is glucosamine sulphate, which is useless really. It is expensive, but much better than the stuff humans have

Use the human one at the drug store. You need glucosamine with condroitin. The condroitin is the delivery system, without it the glucosamine does not reach the joints properly and becomes ineffective for the purpose. I have had my dog on the human product for four years and my vet says that there is no difference between what humans and dogs need for this condition. So my father takes it too.

it isn't more expensive. the vet fees surrounding prescribing it are what bumps up the price. the same can be bought from any health food shop. if you are worried about the ingredients not being the same, just put in your dogs breed and problem into the search bar and you will find others with the same condition and hence an explanation of where theyu purchase the glucosamine. i use it on my standard poodle and get it from my local health food store. chris

My vet told me I could use the human version of glucosamine for my dog. I did for many years and it helped.

When you buy the glucosamine skip the ones with chondritin in them which are more expensive (substantially more). chondritin is not well absorbed by dogs and the glucosamine works fine alone.
the glucosamine sold for dogs are often palatable for dogs in beef flavors so they're easy to get down.

Partly because you pay VAT on medical products for animals. My vet has told me to buy glucosamine with chondretin for humans for my dogs.

I don't know why any medications have to be so expensive.
Check the labels on the dog product and that on the human
product. I have known people that give human glucosamine
to their dogs and had it work just fine.

I dont know, but its the same stuff that humans take. We buy our stuff from Zipvit (a mail order catalogue) and it costs us about £10 for 400. We asked our vet if it was ok to give them to the dog and he said theres no difference between them and the stuff the vet charges the earth for

Could be that the veterinary medicine industry is playing on the fact that people are willing to spend a lot of money on pets, especially dogs and cats.

You can buy the human brands and give them to your dog. Just make sure it is the same dose.
The difference is because they make it more tasty for dogs. That cost money!
